How safe are add-ons?

New Here ,
Dec 01, 2016 Dec 01, 2016

I'm constantly weary on installing third party things from the internet onto my computers, hence this question.

I'm curious what the process is for submitting an add-on. Are they properly screened for malware? I want to be sure that what I am downloading is going to be virus free.

Hi Aerica,

This is a great question. The quick answer is yes but let me add some more detail. When a producer submits a product we virus check the file on upload and we also test the product, further testing for viruses, malware, etc. As well as functionality and compatibility of the Add-on. We also virus check any patches/updates to the Add-on. This is one of the benefits of Add-ons is that it is thoroughly checked against viruses and malware.

I hope that helps.

Hi Aerica,

There are several third-party add-ons on the internet that are malicious.

I will advse that you run an online scan for the add-ons before installation.

Here are some online virus scanners that you can use.
