What does Adobe Exchange do when installing Lightroom Classic Plugins

Explorer ,
Oct 07, 2018 Oct 07, 2018

Am I missing something?

What is *supposed* to happen when I click Install on a plugin in Adobe Exchange? It says "Installed" and now offers the "Uninstall" button.

What I expect to see: either the plugin to be ready installed in Lightroom Classic *or* shown in a list in Plugin Manager.

What appears to happen: a zip file is dumped in my Download folder by the Adobe CC Desktop app.

Is there really no automation between "Installing" a plugin from Exchange? The only action is to get CC Desktop to just download the zip file?

Or is something not working on my system whereby the downloaded zip files are supposed to be unpacked and installed into Lightroom Classic?

Hi Richard,

The answer is that it depends. If a developer submits a zip file to us with all those correct path locations it will show up as you describe but many developers just submit a zip file so it's important to look in the 'Where to Find it' tab on the listing page or in My Exchange to see where the installation goes to and specific next steps.

Over time we do want to make it easier to create the install experience you describe but there are a lot of file types to support and we just added support for Lightroom CC, where you can add presets and profiles.

Hope that helps and thanks for your feedback.

Jonathan
