I encountered the pop up notice that my trial version of Fireworks CS6 was expiring and was prompted to buy it, license it or continue the trial. This was concerning because I had never entered a trial of Fireworks and it was included in my annual all-apps package from Adobe. By the way I have the SOLUTION, but let me digress for a moment. If you ever expect to get help from Adobe's so-called technical experts via chat or phone...FORGET IT! They are all from India, Pakistan, Indonesia...who knows, but one thing is certain they do not know much of anything. Much to my regret I lost my temper during a chat yesterday and used many foul words which I won't repeat here. The experience lasted the good part of an hour through four different CSRs with the bottom line being they had no answer to my problem and that I should try phoning Adobe, which I did and it was even worse there until I got cut off. I have been toying with dropping my Adobe subscription altogether since I also use Corel for graphics (better and more intuitive that Photoshop/Illustrator) and Dreamweaver has become a sorry substitute for web development after Macromedia sold out. I may still yet. Anyway, what you have all been waiting for...the answer is to simply click on "License this Software" and Fireworks will be validated with your email address on file and the "trial box" will go away. It's amazing to me that nobody at Adobe knew how to suggest this simple solution, or why they could not come up with another option to select on the "trial box" that doesn't look like you have to buy something you have already paid for. Anyway, I've had my vent, thank you for your patience and I hope someone out there might be helped by this message.
You do not need to use the adobe cleaner tool, follow the steps below: ...
1) Click the 'License This Software' button
2) If prompted to sign in, click the sign in button
3) you may be automatically signed in or have to enter your adobe login
This should activate the software again providing you have a full or student/teacher Adobe Creative Cloud subscription/license ......
Ive been using Fireworks since v3 and still use it, I've had exactly the same issue on two or three occassions and the
...try this:
1) Make sure Fireworks is closed
2) Launch the Creative Cloud App, click you profile icon (top right) => and sign out, then click => file => exit to close the Creative Cloud app
3) Launch Firework, click the 'license ths software' button and you should be prompted to sign in, login with your Adobe Creative Cloud details, did Fireworks launch successfully?
.... It looks like Adobe have made some chnages and this should resolve the issue now .... If it does not fix the issue for you,

Thanks Nancy for your time.
The alternatives are known, its the funique unctionality that we miss that Fireworks offers.
Maybe it's a sign that so many people need the special functionality.
So back on topic... Why not offer those who have paid for the software the use they paid for.
Nobody is asking for development or support, we know it is not supported anymore.
But this looks like Adobe wants to weed out the use of the program.
As far as I know I can still use Windows Vista, its not supported but it will run nicely, if you want to make that comparison.
So we all look for a sollution if one is at hand.

1. Nobody here works for Adobe. Fellow users can't answer that question.
2. Yes, I agree, it looks that way. That's Adobe's prerogative. They own the software.

I don't want to get "legal" at you Nancy, but I have a Cloud subsciption where Fireworks is included als one of the products.
See my screenshot earlier
We know you don't work @ A nor do we all, but thats no reason not to discuss this omission here.
Thats where forums are for as far as I know
This is not about "ownership" but about the right to use the software we paid for.
Adobe is still offering the software see screenshot @ https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html#/all_products

This seems to have worked as another weird workaround for some people on Windows 10:
1) Make sure Fireworks is closed
2) Launch the Creative Cloud App, click you profile icon (top right) => sign out, then click => file => exit to close the Creative Cloud app
3) Launch Firework you should be prompted to sign in with your Creative Cloud details, did Fireworks launch successfully?
.... Curiously when I did this on my laptop it reset the Fireworks trial period back to 30 days I dunno if it was a freak...

It's the most recent Windows 10 updates that has caused the issue, if memory serves me correctly the update is called 20H2. It might be you could remove the Windows update and see if it resolves the issue with Fireworks, but then you may leave your OS open to security vulnerabilities. The most frustrating part of all of this is, it is the licensing aspect that is a problem and not the actual core software which functions perfectly fine on Windows 10.
My gripes is this; Fireworks is included in the Creative Cloud Suite that people pay for, so therefore we should get a service update to fix the issue, nobody as you say is expecting new features, we all know the situation with Fireworks, but that doesn't make us want to stop using it for its quick/intuitive workflow, there's nothing quite like it...
FYI, I tried to reach out to a couple of people at Adobe about Fireworks, and got no replies.... I think the only thing is for people to try and help each other here and find solutions...

If you have PDapp.exe running as administrator, try disabling it, i.e. uncheck 'run this program as adnminstrator' Fireworks may well launch now and prompt for serial after you go through the process of clicking buttons 'license this software => sign in ... Once you get the prompt for serial try just closing the licensing window by clicking the the 'X' you should get a prompt 'are you sure you want to quit' click yes and if you're in luck Fireworks will still be accessible and usable. Downside is you'll have to do repeat this on every launch

Maybe try reverting back to running PDapp.exe normally i,e, NOT as as an administrstor - Fireworks will probably launch and when you get to the stage where it's asking you for a serial close the licensing window by clicking the 'X' you will be prompted 'are you sure you want quit' click yes ... If you're in luck Fireworks will still be open and usable, downside is you'll have to repeat every Fireworks launch.

The trick with Adobe MUSE does actually NOT work. Muse states:

OK, so you have multi-license Creative Cloud set up, in the first instance I'm assuming you can see Fireworks in your list of apps to install but you re getting the licencing prompt? In the first instance try running Fireworks as an administrator and if you have made any changes to PDapp.exe remove them.
Try some of these if you are still stuck:
1) If you see a 'license this software' button - click it ... in some cases this resolves the issue
2) For quite a few people uninstalling Fireworks (reboot system after uninstall) and then reinstalling with an offline installer has worked, this has worked for people on both Windows and Mac in some cases. Download and offline installer from here *IMPORTANT* you must visit this page first to set an Adobe cookie otherwise the download will fail. Install Fireworks with the installer and see if it will launch, if you see a 'license this software' button click it.
3) Make sure Fireworks is closed - Launch the Creative Cloud App, click you profile icon (top right) => and sign out, then click => file => exit to close the Creative Cloud app - Launch Firework, and you should be prompted to sign in, login with your Adobe Creative Cloud details, click the 'license this software' button if you see it, did Fireworks launch successfully?
4) As you are on a multi-license set up, I would also ask your IT admin to get in touch with Adobe as they are more helpful in such case. The standard Adobe live chat support is pointless where Fireworks is concerned.

Thanks for your help and support, Paul!
1) Not working
2) Will try this out once IT provides the Installer
3) Not working
4) I know the answer from Adobe will 100% be "The tool is no longer supported/maintained since 2012" so I am not going to try this out and cause unnecessary work for others 😕

3) Fireworks keeps asking for a Serial Number
I had this issue a few weeks ago and managed to get it solved. This time nothing helps.
I did try for hours now to get it to run with all possibilites mentioned in any thread here but without success.
Last chance would be offline installer.
Its a real pitty that Adobe does not support here.
As some people did already claim it would be best to make Fireworks free for all!
Also, it is really really disappointing to see that for a paid cloud licence, officially containing Fireworks, no support is given and the app will not run. Its no excuse that it has reached end of life since it did run before and the only problem here is the trial/licensing issue and not the app itself!

Thanks for the solution. I'm sorry for your troubles, but you sure saved me some troubles and for that, I thank you. I don't know why people don't like Fireworks. I've been using it forever, and I don't like it when Adobe moves my cheese! Anyhow, thanks for taking the time. xoxo
