Question

Both browsers crashing when streaming via Flash Player

I'm having both IE 8 & FF 3.0.16 crash when trying to watch streaming (sometimes live) video.  One place this always happens is ESPN3, but it has also happened on Ustream.  The first time this happened was June 1, 2010.  There may have been a problem prior to this date but not to my knowledge.  I have used this machine and all current software to access both ESPN3 and Ustream in the past with no problems, other than my slow internet

Anyway on to the good stuff:

  • I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit
  • IE 8 and FF 3.0.16 (I mainly use IE but tried the same sites on FF to verify where the problem was)
  • According to the link in the sticky my FP version is WIN 10,1,53,64

I hope this is enough information to get started.  Please let me know if there is a simple solution.

Thanks!

Roger

After recently updating to Adobe Flash Player 10.2.152.32 it began crashing whenever watching ESPN3 streaming coverage, both live and replay. I'm streaming this on a Dell Optiplex 760 running Windows 7 64-bit and I tried this in IE v8.0.7600.16385, Firefox v3.6.15, and Safari v5.04. Flash player behaved the same in each browser where after several seconds to a minute of streaming it would crash. Firefox was the only browser that allowed me to send a crash report right from the crashed plugin. Event Viewer logged several IE crashes due to the Flash10n.ocx module some of which is included below:

I just tried installing Shockwave as one of the comments suggested as a resolution but it did not resolve my issue. The Event Viewer log that was just generated is as follows:

Hi, Are you using the 64bit browser? Use the 32bit browser which is the default.

Also check the Help section in that site. The last I checked they use Shockwave Player for some of their Video segments/sites.

    Let me know,

Well I kept trying things on my own as I haven't been getting any answers here in the forum.  Even though I'm sure Shockwave was already installed on my system I installed it last night and that seemed to correct the problem with ESPN 3.  I didn't have time to check other Flash streaming sites but for now it might be fixed.  I'm not sure if a file from Flash was not working and Shockwave stepped in to help or what exactly.

Any ideas why this would have fixed the problem or was it just coincidence?

Is there more info I should give that would allow someone to help me with this problem?

Can you try to find any additional information on the crashes in the Event Viewer (at the time of the crash)?

Does it also happen if you start Internet Explorer and/or Firefox in Safe Mode?

I'm not too familiar with reading the Event Viewer.  Where would I look in it at the time of the crash to find helpful information?
