I see that I'm not alone in this problem--several here are reporting the same thing. I have IE 8 installed on my computer. I have done everything Adobe has recommended but still I can't get the latest player to work. I've uninstalled the older versions, changed the security levels and reinstalled the flash player several times but no success. Is there a solution to this?

I have the same problem. My OS is Windows XP SerPack 3.5, Browser IE; I have Installed and re-installed Adobe Flash Player 10 multiple times, following instructions from Adobe customer support and using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller program.. Flash Player successfully installs (according to the download program) but applications that require Flash Player 10 will not run

I downloaded the following two programs to the Desktop.
Closed all browsers and uninstalled the Flash Player using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller (uninstall_flash_player.exe) on my computer. I did the uninstall a few times because I had residue from working on this issue for the last few days.
I then installed Adobe Flash Player Plugin (install_flash_player.exe).
Open the Flash folder and unload the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe, which will install the FlashUtil10b.exe. The folder will be in C/windows/system32.
I changed all of the permissions of all of the files in this folder to Full Allow. To change permissions right mouse on file and click Security tab and then right mouse on each file and then properties.
Use the default Internet Options for Active X control.
Desktop apps:
Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller = uninstall_flash_player.exe
Adobe Flash Player Plugin Installer = install_flash_player.exe
System apps:
Adobe Flash Player Helper 10.0 r22 = NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe
Adobe Flash Player Helper 10.0 r22 = FlashUtil10b.exe Version 10.0.22.87
Thats it for Flash Player.
Java
Now install the 32 bit version of Java from Sun Microsystems at: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
I also changed all of these file permissions the same as above.

For those with Vista 32/64 bit

I then installed Adobe Flash Player Plugin (install_flash_player.exe) which loaded to C/Windows/sysWOW64/Macromed/Flash.
Open the Flash folder and unload the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe, which will install the FlashUtil10b.exe.

Java
Now install both 32 bit and 64 bit version of Java from Sun Microsystems at: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
I also changed all of these file permissions in 32 bit folder and in the 64 bit folder to Full Allow.
I did this after the PC reverted back to not working after I did the Flash installation above on Monday. Today (Tuesday) it is still playing flash video. Though I don't trust Flash (Adobe), Microsoft or Java after three days of pulling my hair out over this. It seems none of the companies really care much about a free player or the people who use it. Can't really surf the net without Flash.
Most sites have a lot of info on Flash 9 problems with Vista. Gone is the System32 folder that was in 9. Flash 10 puts everything in the 64 bit side of the system. I will let you know if my Flash Player 10 stops playing. So far it is playing and I watched a lot flash movies today. Do I have confidence in this Flash Player and it's continued operation? NO

I do think Flash 10 has bugs with active x controls and this is why it is some times working and then not working. Adobe needs to own up and fix the issues quickly.

Hi, this isn't a reply but a comment by yet another PC user who is having problems with Flash Player. Quite simply I am unable to receive any sound whatsoever from Flasher Player 10. I have deleted my previous version and reinstalled the latest one - but again no luck. I really would appreciate it if Adobe would do something to solve this problem and I guess I'm not the only one here.

Hello again--
I decided to try a different browser tonight and I found (at least for the moment) that the Flash player worked with Apple's Safari browser. My test case was a YouTube video. I don't consider switching browsers to be a real solution but it is a work around for right now. I would like to have Flash player work with IE8.

I have tried for over an hour to install latest Flash Player on FireFox and I still have version 10,0,2,54.
I have Windows Premium 64-bit. (I know - it sucks...)
Adobe Download Manager says that installation is completed, but nothing changes.
I downloaded installation file and tried to install it manually, but it can't find the library file (.dll) in Windows/System32/Macromed - well, there's no such directory in Windows 64-bit. There is Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed...
So... What can I do, to have latest Flash Player????

You should try firefox rather than other web browsers.. firefox is the most commonly used aside from IE so it may work here..

I use FireFox! : "to install latest Flash Player on FireFox..."
FireFox vers. 3.5.5. I allowed www.adobe.com to install add-ones, but it didn't help.
