Question

Did I download Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2 correctly?

I previously had Flash Player 10.0.42.34. I had deleted the Adobe Downloader, the NOS folder and the get plus items from my system

Adobe flash worked fine

I use Vista Home Premium 32 bit with service pack 2

IE7 browser

Then I see that there is a newer version of flash player, so I downloaded the flash removal tool from the ADOBE site. I rebooted and rebooted a second time to make sure all parts of adobe flash 10.0.42.34 were removed which was successful in removing the flash player

Then I went to the adobe site and clicked on get adobe flash player which took me to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP

I went to download and got the prompt for Active X control for ADOBE DownLoad Manager. This successfully installed.

Then when I sent to install flash player a message popped up that said

GetPlus error

Unable to load a GUI

But rather than go to the bottom of the page and click

Your download will start automatically.
If it does not start,

I just closed out my browser. I went to add/delete programs and saw that there was Adobe Download manager in my programs

I rebooted my computer to insure the Adobe DLM was installed

After reboot, I went to Adobe.com and clicked get adobe flash player which took me again to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP

I was able to start the process, but a pop up window asking for permission to download get plus helper ( I use Vista limited user account so that I always need the admin password to install things). I allowed get plus helper and then Flash player was installed, with teh little animated verification that says flash player installed succesfully and that I have version 10.0.45.2

I am asking if:

1. Was it ok to close the IE7  browser window after getting the message "unable to load GUI", then later opening the IE7 browser window and attempting again to install?

2. Or shoudl I have followed the the instructions that said

Your download will start automatically.
If it does not start,

I do show that I have flash player 10.0.45.2

I even went to a website that has flash content (nhl.com) right clicked on a flash item and clicked "about flash player 10" and it took me to

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/  which verified I have flash player 10.0.45.2

I guess I just want to make sure that I have a secure and complete installation, since I went back to install after an unsuccessful first attempt rather than try to download from If it does not start, click here to download

    Thanks Blondie

(This is MerryMort, but I lost my password to the forums and the email I used to set up my forum login was messed up. So I created a new MerryMort)

I checked everything you asked me to look at  I did go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

    Here is what I see

    Flash10e.ocx

    FlashUtil10e exe file

    uninstall_activeX  exe file

    Install Document

Everything looked as you said except

First, go to Tools, click on Manage add ons and look for Shockwave Flash Object ActiveX Control vs 10.0.45.2 and make sure it is Enabled.

I do see Shockwave Flash Object active X control and it is Flash10e.ocx, but when I check the version tab in manage addon ons, currently loaded, it says the version is 10.0.42.34 but it shows as Flash10e.ocx????

Everywhere else I checked in the system you asked me to look, it shows version 10.0.45.2

Blondie- If I can just clarify .

So the method I used to download flash player 10.0.45.2

-Going to Adobe home page and clicking "get adobe flah player"

    -Downloading Adobe Download manager

    - getting the "unable to load GUI" GetPlus error message

-closing out the IE7  browser window

    - Then opening a new IE7 browser window and going through the "get adobe flah player" process again

-Running the program "GetPlushelper" from the prompt on the adobe page

    -installing Flash Player 10.0.45.2

That is a legit/appropriate way to download the flash player right?

Hi MerryMort2000, well glad you were able to rectify your login issue. Thanks for the info. The Flash folder contains the correct files for Flash Player.

The Shockwave Flash Object has the Flash10e.ocx which is the latest FP update. Why the tab shows the previous vs #, I don't know. You said it is listed under "currently loaded" in the manage add ons. My experience has been the determining

factor with all add ons, regardless of where they are "placed" is are they Enabled or Disabled. So just make sure the SWO is Enabled. The listing of the previous vs # may just be a IE7 glitch. Most of the websites like youtube and others will give you a message that you need to update FP if you do not have the Flash10e.ocx.

Do you now receive that message?

Also I would go to Add/Remove or whereever your programs are listed, and Remove any DLM(download manager) and any GetPlus. Click on Remove and wait until you don't see it listed anymore. After removing both of those, take a look at

your Java listings. The latest is JRE 6 update 18. See if you have that. If not, post back what listings of Java are there.

Be SURE TO REBOOT after removing DLM/GetPlus.

Then go back to your add ons and check that SWO and see if the vs # has changed.

The answer to your last question, in a nutshell in my opinion is NO.

    Thanks,

    Thanks eidnolB- The

SWO is enabled.  and Flash10e.ocx is the ONLY SWO in the add ons, even in  looking at all the add ons enabled or disabled.

    I only have Jave 6 update 18

As far as my downloading process, how should I have proceeded once I got the message GetPlus Error, unable to load GUI? Should I clicked that link at the bottom that says if

    Your download will start automatically.
If it does not start, click here to download

where it takes me to fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flashplayer_ax.exe ? If so,  Should I run it or download it to desktop first?

Hi MerryMort, are you dizzy yet? LOL Here is what you can check to make sure everything is installed properly in addition to what you have already done.

First, go to Tools, click on Manage add ons and look for Shockwave Flash Object ActiveX Control vs 10.0.45.2 and make sure it is Enabled.

Now, click on Start, Click on Computer, right click on Local Disk(C:), look for and right click on the Windows folder and Open it, look for a large System32 folder, right click on it and Open, look for Macromed folder and right click on it and Open. You should now see a Flash folder. Right click on it and post back every file that is listed there. These are your

Flash Player files that were installed.

I wouldn't worry about the GetPlus error/GUI. The DLM/GetPlus sometimes has a glitch.

    Thanks,

eidnolb- if one runs into trouble trying to download the latest flash player, is it a viable and secure option to use the link provided at the bottom on the page where it says. Use Vista OS with IE7 browser

    Your download will start automatically.
    If it does not start,

will that give you the same safe and secure and functioning current version of flash player?

Hi Count100, Do you realize that you don't have to start a new thread everytime you have an additional question?

You started 2 different threads on 2/12/10.

Then today 2/18/10, you started another one.

Then you replied to someone else's  thread today 2/18/10.

Now you replied and asked me something on yet another person's thread.

No one can keep up with you and I doubt if you will get any answer since no one can determine what your problem is.

By the way, I took the time to respond to your thread of 2/12/10 "Can I remove the GetPlus & NOS folders after  I

    download the newest flash player?"

However you did not have the courtesy to reply to me.

    Regards,
