Flash 9 Installed but not detected

Guest

I have installed flash player 9 on my computer. according to adobe's website it's installed however any time i go to a website requiring flash it says that i need to download flash player 9. i have tried to uninstall and reinstall several times yet the same symptoms occur. the weird thing is that there are two user accounts on my computer. one of them has no problem with flash and the other account does. i've tried setting up a new user account to see if flash would work on another account and it will not. all of the user accounts have administrator rights. i am really confused at this point and don't know what else to try. i am also running ie7 and this problem didn't start until i downloaded ie7. it seems that there are a lot of people out there having trouble with flash 9 and ie7. i have tried to email adobe about the issue but i have not heard back from them. does anyone have any suggestions. thanks for your help in advance!

This problem has been driving me nuts for months, but I've been using FireFox to get around it. Just don't get it... I'll try the method suggested to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks!

The thing that finally worked for me was Resetting Internet Explorer settings.

Tools/Advanced/ Reset.

I had to perform both steps, which leads me to believe that the two products were conflicting. I don't know what versions I had of each or if Shockwave was even installed, but I'm good to go now.

First of all, thank you - I have searched everywhere and this finally did it. Second, FYI, I ran a few tests after getting Flash running. I tried to reinstall Shockwave after installing Flash and it did indeed disable IE7's ability to properly detect Flash 9 on sites like YouTube and Sky.com. So I repeated the steps (uninstall Flash, restart, uninstall SW, restart, install Flash) and lo and behold, Flash worked again. So I would not recommend trying to run both on the same system.

Cheers,
LL

I posted this on another thread in this forum...but here it is for this thread (probably bad forum etiquette, but there's alot of folks looking for an answer here).

I am running XP SP2 and IE6.

Here's the solution as posted by a previous poster, I think for a Vista user that was experiencing the same behavior from Flash:

1. Go to WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash and find uninstaller
2. After you run uninstaller the "Flash" folder should disappear itself...if not, you manually delete it
3. Install the flash player again with the file you download from adobe http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi

I followed step 1, but the only uninstaller i could find in the Flash folder was an unistaller for the Flash9.ocx, so i ran it. It however did NOT delete the Flash folder itself, so i did what step 2 recommended and deleted the Flash folder altogether. Then I went to Adobe's site at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash and downloaded the Flash9 installer, ran it, and bingo! Flash works again.

Unfortunetly vista is very unstable and has many bugs and errors.I don't see why xp can't please your needs until the software becomes more compatible with vista.
