Flash 9 Installed but not detected

I have installed flash player 9 on my computer. according to adobe's website it's installed however any time i go to a website requiring flash it says that i need to download flash player 9. i have tried to uninstall and reinstall several times yet the same symptoms occur. the weird thing is that there are two user accounts on my computer. one of them has no problem with flash and the other account does. i've tried setting up a new user account to see if flash would work on another account and it will not. all of the user accounts have administrator rights. i am really confused at this point and don't know what else to try. i am also running ie7 and this problem didn't start until i downloaded ie7. it seems that there are a lot of people out there having trouble with flash 9 and ie7. i have tried to email adobe about the issue but i have not heard back from them. does anyone have any suggestions. thanks for your help in advance!

Hello, I don't understand what you mean by this. In my Netscape 7.2 Plug Ins folder were 3 icons for Flash. I copied and pasted them into Internet Explorer's (Ver 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2) Plug Ins folder. PLEASE help me find this. THANKS.

For Vista only...............This solution seems to have worked for me. All Flash sites are now working, and Adobe FP is now listed in 'Uninstall a Program'. (Another thing I noticed along with this install problem was that the Flash Player was not listed here, which makes sense).
In Windows Explorer, navigate to Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. Right click on the file 'FlashUtil9d.exe' and select 'Run as Administrator'. Whether you are logged on as an admin. doesn't matter. It will then install without having to change any security, permissions, or other settings.
If you have multiple entries of this file, make sure you have selected the latest version (9.0.47.0) by right-clicking and selecting 'Properties', and choosing the 'Details' tab. In my instance, all earlier version files were removed when the latest version installed correctly.
Hopefully, this will help some Vista users.

So today I decided to upgrade my IE6 to IE7. Went to Youtube and could not see the video. So I decided to upgraded the Adobe Flash Player. Yet youtube keeps informing me that I don't have it and to install it in order to watch the video.
So for the umpteenth time of installing and uninstalling I still get nothing! So I downloaded the Adobe Flash Player 9.0.21.75 Beta and still it doesn't work.
I have Windows XP? I thought for one minute that it was something to do with the programs that I deleted today but the only programs I delete was:
Google Earth,Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and Microsoft Money 2004.
So have anyone found a solution to this problem?

I just had another go but this time also un-installed 'shockwave' from my pc 1st....
... bingo!...
I got the install instructions etc which I never got b4 and now it's okay....

Same problem and none of the reported "fixes" works for me. Flash player was not recognized since about the time I started running IE7 Beta.
Running - XP Pro SP2, IE7 released version

Go to http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/ download the uninstall utility and run it. Reboot your machine, make sure you have activeX controls enabled in your brower, (see Flash Player install notes if you need some guidance). Reinstall Flash player and reboot your machine. This should take care of most issues in this string.

I also was using IE 6, then I tried IE 7 and was having the same problem. I would uninstall 7, went back to 6, retried 7 again...so forth.

Everything seems to be working fine after I re-installed IE7 and Flash Player 9.

I'm using IE 7 v. 7.0.5730.11 and Flash Player v. 9,0,16,0.

Update IE 7 to the current version mentioned above and try the following, it helped me to get Flash Player 9 working:

When you attempt to view other Flash content in Internet Explorer for Windows, you also see this missing content icon.

Reason
If you previously installed a later version of Flash, you may be prevented from reinstalling that same version or an earlier version. For example, if, while testing, you installed Flash Player 9,0,16,0, and then removed it, further installations of that same version may appear to complete but are not functional. This issue can cause the display of a quotation mark (") at the end of the installation where the Flash Player confirmation movie should appear.

Editing or manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system damage, which may require reinstallation of the operating system. Right-click and delete the folder named Safe Versions.
Using Internet Explorer for Windows, reinstall Flash Player 9 from the Flash Player Download page on the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/go/getFlashPlayer.

With regard to your query, I suggest that you download and run our
latest uninstaller

Then download the exe installer:

It is recommended that you temporarily disable your Antivirus, as it may

This seems to have to fixed my problem. I wonder why ActiveX download to install/upgrade didn't work correctly with my XP Pro. SP2's IE6.0 SP2 (all updates).

This problem has bugged me in the past and I have discovered one solution that may help. First, a little history: I upgraded from Flash Player 8 to 9 in 2006 and, though installed properly, it would not show flash content at my ISP's home page. Screwing around with some other applications, it began working as advertised. Earlier this month, I removed a small application (not related to Flash Player 9) from my PC and FP9 quit working again. Doing some detective work, I discovered that it is related to VB script issues (these do NOT show up in the Windows "Events" file! "Start + Administrative Tools + Events"). This is how I discovered what happened to me and what you might do to get FP9 working again:

I ran the program and it "hung." Reviewing the "Event" log, I discovered the "Error Code: 2738" associated with the MBSA failure. However, it works just fine with Firefox.

Please give this a try. 5 out of the 6 including myself in this forum and other threads have tried it and it has worked. It is a standalone install of flashplayer 9.0.28.0. I opens the usual security box that shows it is a macromedia.com file. when I installed I had unistalled any FP that I had and I had Shockwave 10.9 installed. I think there is a co relationship between SW and FP some how. It is for IE only. I have IE6 and dial up and FP now works with no issues.

I have IE6. I never did upgrade to 7, heard too many problems with it. I just started with this problem like a week and a half ago. Before that everything was fine. I have no idea (of course) why flashplayer stopped working - or - IE refused to acknowledge it.
I did all the instructions suggested above from Reproman.
Uninstalled fp & sw (for the last time) & then installed the SW download & the FP download from the http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html link given.
It works again!!
This whole problem is just too bizarre. I am so glad I found this solution within about 4 hours of trying to fix it.

Wasn't going to take the time to fill out the info in order to reply, but felt others may benefit. I too, have had many of the same problems with Flash 9. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, uninstalled Shockwave, tried to install Flash 9 again, rebooted my computer I don't know how many times, followed all instructions on Adobe support, tried a few of the other suggestions on this forum, took it to a computer science grad, etc. etc. and nothing worked. On November 20, Reproman66 posted a link for a standalone install of Flash 9. Thanks!!!! In the span of 1 minute I had Flash 9 installed!

First, get rid of IE7 via control panel - ad/remove programs, etcc.. As much as I like the tab feature and options improvements, it is NOT worth it. Now for the fix (at leasr for youtube.com and vh1.com):

Ok I solved this by getting rid of Shockwave... first off I couldn't even install Flash 9, kept getting the ", but after uninstalling Shockwave it installed and seems to be working so far. Just got to work out how I can view Shockwave sites without using Shockwave now!!

Hi, I had the same problems. I tried everything and am just short of reinstalling the entire operating system. BUT, I found a way that works!!!! It's not a complete answer but hey, it works! I've been trying it with the Internet Explorer browser. TRY installing the NETSCAPE browser. It's free. I tried it - it works! I didn't even have to reinstall the flash player. It read it from all my previous tries. Good luck, Regan
