Flash Install Problems of Course

New Here ,
May 23, 2010 May 23, 2010

Ok, where to start. I used to have flash player then all of a sudden it dissapeared. Ive been researching these forum in order to try and correctly install. The following post caught my attention

No Success Installing Flash player on IE8, XP sp3, 32 bit, security off.

The folowing link explained exactly what has been happening on my system

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html

I was about to attempt this in order to finally get flash back. Only I couldn't continue, it states both programs need to be saved in the folowing directory

C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools

Only problem is I dont have Windows Resource Kits/Tools file, so I didnt continue.

I have IE8

Vista

32 bit

MSE

empty Macromed file

no Flash files at all

no DLM

no get atlcom Class add on

How can I use the above method without that file, or should I try another solution

Hi, well that info helps. MSE would have turned off Windows Defender if it was there. I read about all of what to do, since I installed MSE also. I had about 3 years ago the Windows Live One Care. Well about 2 months ago I read that when you Uninstall it you must run the clean up utility. So I took a look at my files and sure enough many Live One Care files were there. So I ran the utility and it knocked out my  MSE and took something out of my Flash Player!! So I had to Uninstall both and Re-Install both MSE & Flash Player. So yes I know things can go beserk:-)

Some new PC's do have FP installed, and I think that is a plus. I think the Service Pack would have been the culprit. I run XP and updated to SP3. It didn't cause a problem like that utility did though. I think you meant SP2 for Vista, SP3 is for XP.

Thanks for checking in View Objects, one less thing that it could be.

I would call MS tomorrow after you take a break. They will be able to find out what the problem is and what caused it.

Talk to you later.

Hey, you are bound and determined to get some version working LOL Well without checking that version RC5?, I would say there may be an ActiveX Control for your IE add ons. I know the other RC's did. Go back to the site where you installed it and see if there is an additional plug-in or add on. I'll check too.

Be back!

Hi, it appears that you should already have the add on installed. Check and see. This 10.1.53.55 seems different. Did you remember to Reboot after Installing?

I can't remember which RC that had an add'l, hard to keep up. This is #5.

Hi, My ISP is acting up, having a hit & miss connection for about the last hour or so.

Well, so now it's installed with the add on and what? What site are you getting the message from? I was reading some of the RC5 info, but didn't get to finish due to my connection. I'm going to power cycle and see if that helps.

I think most of the sites are looking for the 10.0.45.2, however some users are swearing by the beta version and it appears to be working. Will be back in a few minutes.

i didn t notice that when i installed the rc5 version it had failed to register.

finally got the SubInACL to finally work, but flash still doesnt work. It did say it repaired flash registires or sumthin

oh well, not sure what to do now.

i already tried to uninstall/reinstall again.

How can I find out if this system came with flash preinstalled. Someone once posted that a system reostore fixed the problem. Not sure if I should try this yet. How do I save/back-up all programs, files, games, downloads I want to keep if I decide to do this.

Hi mcadan, Now the version you installed, was it not the prerelease RC5? I think this link has the Uninstaller info listed

right below the "Debugger Builds" title. Uninstallers. Check that.

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

Have you already downloaded that to your Desktop?

Thanks,

i tried a few different versions of Flash. One of two things will happen:1 when downloading it will say this is not the most curent version, 2 will download but the active x control will fail to register.

now have version 10.1.53.60 installed. i even checked in the manager add-ons, and it shows the activex control enabled and for all sites. STILL FLASH DOESNT WORK. even when dowloading a debugger it fails to register, and all securtiy was off.

NOTHING WILL WORK

mcadan, you did not mention you were using either Firefox or a "other" browser. You are missing a Flash file for Firefox if that is your other browser. Also, I thot you told me you installed the RC6 which is version 10.1.53.60. But your Flash files are showing version 10.1.53.55.

Did you Uninstall the 10.1.53.60 and Re-Install the 10.1.53.55????

Ok, now confirm what is listed in your IE add ons for Shockwave Flash Object, version# or what it says after Flash.....

Also using Firefox or "other browser", look for the plug-in SWF and tell me what version it is & is it enabled.

Now in Add/Remove or Programs & Features, you say there is a Flash Player plug-in, is there also a Flash Player ActiveX?

While you are there, is there now a DLM/getplus? I know you checked before, but you have Un/In.

Also are you using Firefox?

Hi Pat, thanks for the input. Good question & an important point. We've covered so many bases, I don't know if there are

any more to cover:-)

Thanks,

eidnolb

hi, and thanks for all assistance in this matters, it is quite frustrating. i actually tried online support with ms before i even came here. they could not correct the problem. They even said i might have 64 bit not 32 bit, and flash is not available. i have the sytem 32 file not wow 64, doesnt that mean im using 32bit browser?

The version I showed is what I currently have installed, ive been trying everything. I only use IE8, i dont even know anything about other browsers.

In add-ons it shows Shockwave Flash Oblject, status Enabled, Version 10.1.53.60, and the type is ActiveX Control. But in the flash files, what I just posted is exactly whats there. Maybe something didn't get fully uninstalled as I was trying many versions for sucess. They either said it wasnt the curretn version, or installed but failed to register.

in control panel i only have the Shockwave Flash Player 10 Plugin.

no dlm or get plus, those get downloaded if you try the online direct download, I ve only been trying offline donwloads as that never works

Even if I do a full uninstall, and install with no security, internet disconnected, taking all precautions....the same problems seem to persist.

Why would iit install all the way and then fail to register, or say im not downloading the most current version and do nothing

i was actually just reading that thread about UAC. I believe Ive tried an install before with that turned off. My activeX control isnt dissapearing from add-ons, just nothing is working. What version can you suggest I attempt to download if I retry everything again???

Ill make sure Internet at Medium, Firewall off, MSE off, internet disconnected.

How can I fully clean out all falsh content, will the uninstalls be enough?

Hi, glad you read that post. The first thing we are going to have to do is look at the Flash folder and post back every file that is listed there. We need to determine that so we know exactly which Uninstaller to use first.

I thot that UAC would apply to you since you have Vista and IE8. From CJ's post, this ActiveX Control(Shockwave Flash Object) is being de-activated by the UAC on a Reboot. This makes Flash Player inoperable! That ActiveX Control MUST be active, since it is the CONTROL and works with the Flash files.

Let's get the Flash files listed first.

Thanks,

eidnolb

What I previously posted is what WAS there. I now have an empty FLash folder, uninstalled everything. Even berfore when i posted with those files listed, while doing the install the Activex control always failed to register. I tried to install two dif versions with firewall, MSE, UAC all off, with no luck. I cant even ever get a full install with no errors. i dont think uac was doing that to me cause the activex always remained in the add-ons and enabled, but like i said that install was like all others, something failed to register. Everything that seems to fix other users problems has yet to correct mine. It is quite idiotic that Adobe Flash Player has a manopoly over the entire industry, there are NO choices. So many sitesd require Flash, otherwise I wouldnt even bother with all this.

WHATS NEXT>>>>LOL

Hi mcadan, So we have a blank slate? 🙂 I don't know what's next other than an open window? Ha-Ha Sometimes it does get to that point. I actually do know what's next. But before we try again, I want to check some previous threads on that failed to register.

This time, we are going to check and make sure that UAC is still disabled after the first Reboot after the Uninstall. This UAC is acting exactly like McAfee and Norton Anti-Virus does, re-enables upon the first Reboot and then naturally it prevents the Install of the ActiveX Control.

For now, take a break, get some lunch. That is what I am going to do and then get back to you.

Thanks,

eidnolb
