I see I have the same problem as many others in that the flash player 10.1 update could not register. I have XP sp3 with all the latest updates, IE8, AVG free 9, Spybot S&D, I use the windows firewall. After the first failed install I uninstalled AVG and Spybot and turned off the firewall, set all IE options to what troubleshooting said to. Ran ccleaner and set it so nothing would load at start up and did a restart. I still get the same error "could not be registered". Just for S&G I uninstalled all other adobe items and tried again, no good. I reinstalled all other adobe items with no problem and they all seem to be working fine except for the flash player. Any help would be great Thank you Chris

JB, you answered to Pat's request to Chris, hopefully Pat will not think this is Chris's answer. I posted to your thread what Microsoft has to say about this error.
Thanks,

Christopher!! I just told you and your Flash files told you Flash Player was Installed correctly with the SWO add on. Now you almost, I said almost let that youtube, convince you that you needed Flash Player. Be glad I can't reach you, LOL
You did save yourself tho, by telling me that all files and the SWO are as they were which are C-O-R-R-E-C-T ![]()
Do not Uninstall, Install or even try to!! There are very valid reasons that something needs adjusted. Wait until tomorrow.
Have a good night:-)
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hi lainery, I don't mind you posting your info, it is just as I had asked Chris on a different thread to start his own. For sanity's sake:-) not yours nor Chris's but mine
I'm going to have to ask you to do the same. Each of you know your system but I can't keep with more than one at a time on the same thread. It is also better because if I tell Chris to Remove something and you thot I was talking to you....well you can see what could happen.
I did have a minute and your Flash Player files are ok for FF(Firefox) along with the SWF add on. The Flash files for IE are all ok as well. The issue is that the Shockwave Flash Object is not Installed in the IE add ons. That Shockwave ActiveX is most likely for the Shockwave Player as Chris had. 2 separate programs. Something is blocking the Install of that ActiveX Control.
Now I did not that the folder C:\Windows\System32\Adobe\Director. Is that a typo? Your Flash files should be in the Macromed\Flash. You may want to re-check the location just to be sure.
I'll look for your thread, I have made notes on your system info, so all you need to do is state basic info and then reference this thread. That will be easier.
Thanks,
eidnolb
