I followed the instructions posted here by eldnolb in answer to Re:still problems. Here is my situation. I have installed and uninstalled the player at least 8 times today. After each install I find that IE7 has the ver10 plugin and work well, but the flash player is missing in the Program Files folder. Also when I use the control panel for adding and removing software the flash player 10 is listed, but the file size is missing because the player folder and its files are missing and were created during the install.
Now my present status is I have uninstalled the player using the uninstaller on my desktop. The player installer recommended by eldnolb will not run and gives the error message that it is not the latest version (since I had installed the version on adobe download website earlier). What should I do now? Should I download the latest version on Adobe and run it from the desktop? I am running windows xp home version.
That is normal. Flash Player is not an executable like a standalone player, but a web player / browser plugin, which consists only of a DLL, or OCX file, respectively.

Flash Player is not installed under Program Files, but in the Windows folder. Since the player is working, I don't see any problem here.

I need to have a stand-a-lone flash player in order to run the files with file extension swf. (small web files).

Sorry, I had a typo. The following sentence should have been: "Also when I use the control panel for adding and removing software, the flash player 10 is listed, but the file size is missing because the player folder and its files were not created during the install."

Is there software anywhere that I can use to run to play these swf files?

I think that Adobe Media Player can do that. I've never tried it, so I would be grateful if you could report back if it indeed does.

I downloaded Adobe Media Player and installed it. It opened and played the swf tutorial on interactive beginners guide to paint.net program (downloaded from getpaint.net). It worked well. There is not much help documentation for Adobe Media Player. When you hit the Full Screen button on bottom right, it goes to full screen but puts a long menu bar in bottom part on what you are trying to view. If wait a few seconds the menu bar disappears. It is annoying because every time you move your mouse point to interact with the guide, this menu pops up. On the menu bar, the left button is for restart and the right button takes you out of the full screen mode. Here are screen shot of the guide using Ms Media Player(image copied by using my keyboard Ctl and Print Screen keys),then pasted it into Ms Photo Editor.
I also tried using KM Player ver 2.9.3.1214 that was a free download from CNET. Also a nice program. Here is the same screen shot using KM Player. No menu popups with this program. Also it has af full range of files you can open using the drop down submenu located in the top left corner of the screen (KLM Player logo button) lists all the functions. Each function listed can be executed by click on the function listed.
