Flashplayer update for Mac OS quits unexpectedly

The current Flashplayer update for Mac crashes every time I try to install it. The message is "Install Adobe Flash Player quit unexpectedly"

I'm running Mac OS 10.7.5 on a Macbook Pro

Works for me. Thanks much for posting. Like others, my auto download was only 676kb so the problem lies somewhere between that version and the full 15.7mb fix via the link. Disappointing that Adobe can't fix what should be obvious.

What is the file name of the installer that was downloaded?
Screenshot of the installer dialog window before and after crashing (How to post a screenshot in the forum)
For the following files, please upload them using the instructions How to share a document
- Flash Player install log file, https://forums.adobe.com/thread/985831
Apple creates crash log files when an application crashes. Application crash log files are usually located in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter. The file name includes the application name. Please provide any files that have Flash Player in the file name.

I am having the same problem. I am running OS 10.9.5. I get the message "Install Adobe Flash Player quit unexpectedly". I have tried downloading the installer with Firefox instead of Safari, and have also now run the Unistaller to remove the previous Adobe Flash Player. The installer still quits as soon as I double-click the green button "Install Adobe Flash Player".

Launch the online installer
When the "Install Adobe Flash Player quit unexpectedly" message displays, click the REPORT button

There are two other log files we'd like to obtain to further investigate this issue. Can you please upload (using the 'how to share a document' instructions) the two (2) files in the ~/Library/Logs/Adobe_ADMLogs directory?

m_vargas, did you get the info you needed to solve the on-line file problem? I don't know if this is significant, but I noted the on-line file download was only 675k in size compared to the 15.7 megs from the link.

Hi Ianbudd,

The team is investigating why the online installer is crashing. The various log files provided have been helpful. With regards to file sizes, the online installer is only about 675kb and the offline installer is 15.7MB.

Thanks again for the info provided. We hope to resolve the crash with the online installer soon, although, I don't have an estimate of when it'll be fixed at this time.

Hi CCartsteR,

Thank you for the additional information and the crash log file. What is the name of the file that produced the latest crash log file? Based on the version number info in the crash log file, it appears to be one of the online installers, but it's not the same as the version number in the crash log file you posted last week. The version number is also not the version number for the offline installer.

Since the crash appears to be happening immediately upon launching the installer it's not surprising that nothing is being written to the install.log file and the two log files in ~/Library/Logs/Adobe_ADMLogs directory are not being created.

Hi Maria,

I deleted all the installers I have previously downloaded before I did the offline update, hence I had to re-download the installer via https://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/

On the page itself, it says the total file size is 14.9MB, but after downloading the file, I looked at the info and it reads 674,479 bytes (676 KB on disk) with the file name "AdobeFlashPlayer_17_ta_install.dmg".

Double clicked on the downloaded file, it was verified and mounted on my desktop, then i proceeded with double clicking on the Flash Player Installer icon, then it crashed.

I kept trying over and over again, same result. Even tried to re-download the installer, still same result.

Hi CCartsteR,

Have you tried rebooting your system and then attempting the installation again? If you downloaded the online installer (AdobeFlashPlayer_17_ta_install.dmg) multiple times, please delete all extra copies (empty the trash bin as well) leaving only one copy on your system, reboot your system and try installing again. If that doesn't work, please try the offline installer posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Mac page in the 'Still having problems' section. Please let me know if installation using the online installer (AdobeFlashPlayer_17_ta_install.dmg) was successful after rebooting your system, or if you had to use the offline installer.

Thanks for the reply.

I finally managed with the help of Apple to get it done. It required creating an additional user in the computer, but it seems to work.

I will save your e-mail contact info in case I have more trouble.

BTW, it is really frustrating that there appears to be no way to get a telephone number to actually talk to someone.
