IE 11 on Windows 8.1 embeded 22.0.0.209 & YouTube

Hello,

I have a number of domain client computers running windows 8.1, for which flash content works on most sites but by default YouTube reports 'You need Adobe flash player to Watch this video.  Download it from Adobe'.  (Now requesting the HTML5 player or turning on ActiveX filtering provides a temporary work around).

The clients are running IE11 11.0.9600.18427 Update versions: 11.0.34 (KB3175443) - Which is august 9th MS16-095 update.

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html reports 22.0.0.209 Internet Explorer (ActiveX) 'Flash Player is pre-installed with Internet Explorer in Windows 8.1 and updates automatically

http://www.adobe.com/uk/software/flash/about/  shows the animation correctly,  but reports 'Flash Player is out of date (22,0,0,209).' and below that the latest Flash Player version information is 22.0.0.209 for Internet Explorer (embedded - Windows 8.1) - ActiveX (and 22.0.0.210 for Internet Explorer - ActiveX).

I'm at a bit of a loss, as 22.0.0.209 does look to be the latest applicable version?

Whist I'm still unaware of what changed regarding YouTube / Flash since July to bring on the problem, the issue I was encountering was being caused by having a very old group policy 'Use Policy List of Internet Explorer 7 sites' that had YouTube in it's list.  This seemingly takes effect but doesn't appear when viewing IE 11 'compatibility list' settings.  Removing it has resolved the issue (although not the actual problem of why YouTube seemingly didn't see flash as installed etc).

Hi,

YouTube defaults to HTML5 video and has done so for quite some time.  Please post a direct link to the YouTube site returning the Flash Player error.

For Windows 8.1 and above and IE/Edge browser Flash Player 22.0.0.209 is the most current version.  For Windows 7 and below and IE Flash Player 22.0.0.210 is the most current version.  I will notify the team responsible to the widget on the Adobe - Flash Player  page that the widget is not displaying correct information.

Hello Maria,

Thanks for notifying the widget team, that did cause some self doubt and confusion! In terms of the YouTube videos it's currently any that bring up the notification (on any of many client computers) - I'm guessing something else is at play with the clients preventing the HTML5 default

If you turn on ActiveX Filtering (from your first post) then it disabled Flash Player as Flash Player is an ActiveX Control.

Have you checked that Flash Player is enabled in the browser?

What happens when you run IE in safe mode?

Is this only happening on YouTube?  Or does it happen with other Flash video?

Does this happen with standard user accounts or with Admin user accounts?
