What makes you think it's not Youtube's fault?? We've tried everything and other flash websites seem to work! But if you want to waste your time and reformat go right ahead. When I had this problem before one of the Adobe tech support guys even had me mess around with my registry and then download something from windows for a supposed fix. Guess what? NOTHING still worked!

I finally gave up and then a few days later Youtube worked fine again.

I'm having the same trouble with Youtube and itv.com - in IE 7, Opera and Firefox.

Does anyone have an example of a site that relies on Flash and that is working so I can have a look see?

i received a reply to my plea from youtube. haven't had a chance to try it yet - and it's only a temp fix [supposedly].
Hi there,

Thanks for your email. We have found that turning off any third-party ad blocking or pop-up blocking softwares such as Norton AntiVirus that might be running on your computer, has resolved the issue in the past. Also, please know that this is a temporary solution while we work with our engineers to fix the issue.

In case you continue to have trouble, please do the following:

1) Check your Proxy Settings
- In IE 6 click on Tools> Internet Options.
- Go to the "Advanced" tab and scroll down to HTTP1.1 settings
- Check the box which says "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections"
- Click on "OK" and refresh the page.
2) Download the latest Flash player. To learn how to do this, visit our Help Center at http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=57669.
3) Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, Close all instances of the browser. Re-launch and try again.

If you’re having trouble with our site and have already cleared the cache and cookies, you may want to upgrade your current browser or switch to another browser to see if that remedies the problem. However, make sure that this browser has the latest version of Flash player installed.

Hope this helps,

Malyaban

Funny thing is Google Video works! And Google OWNS Youtube! The same with Liveleak. Correct me if I'm wrong but both these sites also use Flashplayer don't they?

So what gives? Was Youtube trying to use some fancy new technology on their players that screws a lot of people up?

Hi guys! i was having the same problem. i tried everything, i couldn't even download the flash player 9 and when i managed to download it(not from adobe's site) it didn't worked. Same thing for 3 weeks and using the IE. Finally, i downloaded mozilla firefox and Mozilla activeX control v1.7.12 (maybe that's what trully helped me solve the problem, really i don't know...sorry..) and after rebooting everything works fine. i can watch all the videos in youtube BUT ONLY using Mozilla, IE still doesn't works. So i don't think it's youtube's fault...

i started using mozilla about 3 months ago, and yes youtube worked for a few days, but same crap after that. i tried their temp fix above and still get NOTHING. i will use google video, but i like some of the categories and i need to keep up w/ what folks are watching and google just doesn't have those features. it's awfully clumsy using youtube to find out what people are watching and then searching for the videos on google. this issue is NOT yet resolved.

There is no such thing as a Mozilla Active-X control.

Internet Explorer for Windows uses the Flash Player ActiveX control. ActiveX is the 'plugin' technology for IE (what used to be called 'COM' back in the day migrated into the activex subsystem).

ALL other browsers Windows and on ALL other platforms (Mac/Linux/Sparc) use the Flash Player Plugin.

They do the same thing, but they do it very differently. And the plugin is much less closely tied to the Windows registry/subsystems.

I have to admit I installed Mozilla. Can no one explain a solution for people who aren't clued up on computer speak. Everytime I click on the "install now" the page reloads and all I'm left with is the same page. All my JavaScripts are enabled. Can't work out if it's me or YouTube...so confusing and annoying!

For Mozilla Firefox NOT INTERNET EXPLORER

If you are using Firefox you will download the installer from www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

1. Download the installer to your desktop
2. Close out of Firefox
3. Use the installer on your desktop to install Flash Player
4. Test to see if Flash Player is working here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/

If it is working here but not on YouTube read YouTubes latest post:

While I refuse to download Mozilla - ditto.

I have the same viewing problem on myspace too.

Everytime I click "install now" it reloads back to the same page, and nothing is downloded. I've done every suggestion people have sugessted on this forum.

How do I get around this dowloading block?

And is it Adobe's fault, or Youtube/Myspace's?

Are you able to see Flash Player here?

http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/

If you see Flash Player installed here, Flash Player is installed and working.

The issue may be the detection method. Different sites use different detection methods.

I added

@@*.youtube.com/*

to AdBlockPlus to bypass ad blocking on the site, flushed the cache, and refreshed the page. It worked after that. I have Firefox 2.0.0.8 and Windows XP sp2.

I have the same problem, after some appication asked me to install "a new version" of the Flash Player a couple of days ago, now it doesn't work and it was working fine until then.

I have tried everything I have read in these posts: new versions, old versions, reboot, uninstall/install, I think I have tried everything, ... the Player says it got installed, but it doesn't play anything .... none site that needs Adobe Flash Player works.
I have also turned pop-up blockers off, but nothing.

Also tried to install the new "lab" version(build is 9.0.64.0) at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer9/
but I still having the issue.

guess something corrupted my registry.

It says it's installed...but still, if I click on the download box on the downloadpage, it still reloads me back to the same screen.

Does this mean that I do have Flash Player downloaded, and its Youtube/Myspace/Other video sites that aren't working, that my computer is fine?

Please note that "Arrrrrgggghh" was my response when this site told me I couldn't use the nickname I'd already picked because it was taken. I know it was taken - I took it. Sheesh.
