While trying to watch videos on the CNN site, I am not able to see the actual video.
When you click on the video, you are forced to watch a 30 second comercial, which works perfectly, then the actual selected video will start.
After the commercial, the frame goes black, with the text "Optimizing video..." at the bottom, but the sound is playing perfectly.
Here is a sample video:
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2012/06/23/couple-lives-in-a-storage-unit.kwes
I have tried multiple videos with the same result, the commercial works fine but the actual video does not.
I am using:
Windows 7 64bit
Flash v11.3.300.257
IE v9.0.8112..16421
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks.

I had the same problem yesterday with my Windows 7 64bit and IE v9. If you click on help (upper right corner) at CNN on the page the video is on, it says the following and it worked for me even though it aplies to MACs. Just be sure to refresh to get it to work:
"
Why do I hear audio but not see any video?
A small percentage of Mac users with a certain combination of Adobe Flash, Mac OS X, and video hardware may have this experience. Software updates from Adobe or Apple may address this issue, so make sure you have the latest version of Flash and the most recent updates to Mac OS X. You can temporarily fix this issue easily by doing the following:

I'm having the same issue. Commercial plays fine, but doesn't cycle to the video. It just stops.

Hey Adobe. Can someone post a possible resolution? Flash is dieing. It will only die faster if you don't support it. If I can't get flash to work I will tell each web site I use that I cannot use flash. That will hasten their move off of flash to html5.
I don't care either way, but I am having the issue of the ad plays then the video is just black. Since I am not alone here, you would be wise to post a solution or better yet auto-install a fix.

This sounds like a cnn.com server problem, or possibly a networking issue with the actual video content server (and not the ad server.) I just tried the video linked in the OP on Firefox and IE (using Flash Player 10.3 and 11.5) and couldn't reproduce the problem. If you feel like a Flash Player update caused this to occur, I would recommend reverting back to Flash Player 10.3 to see if that helps resolve the problem.

Not sure if this is the same problem but we have find that some, but not all, websites are failing Flash playback with cnn.com being a 100% repeatable issue.
We found though that using a debug version of the relevant release resulted in playback success. We are using v12.0.0.44 and have seen this problem consistently since r11.
To test, try downloading a debug version from here:-

I have the same problem but if I use Firefox or Chrome to see the same clip from CNN website, that problem is gone so this happens only when I use IE. I will try to figure out the problem and will post my findings.

More investigation results. I found out that when the clip is running and the background is white and you cannot see the clip while you can hear the clip if you click on the icon under the clip that makes the image full size, then you can see the clip but once you click on ESC and go back to small screen on the CNN webpage, that image clip turns white again.

Sorry but that is not my problem. When it gets to the end of the ad, if the ad plays, I get white block with a black line at the bottom but no sound and no video controls.

I just installed a new computer win7 64. Loaded Firefox 28 and went to CNN and guess what? Works like a charm. So, on my older win 7 64 machine I have done all that the posts say including CC-cleaner and reinstall Firefox after wiping the directories and everything that CNN and Adobe have requested to try and still no results except when I install flash 10.3 it all works. So I find it hard to believe that with all these people having the same or similar problems that Adobe, Mozilla or Microsoft would come up with a solution or even begin testing for this problem. So just what does the script do after playing the commercial? Where can we see the script executing so we can debug it? What is the problem with these two companies? I also have the same results on CBS and FoxNews video. No problem on MSNBC or other news channels. Oh, and by the way, they fixed it so the video now doesn't allow you to change to full screen. No controls. Are we being blocked by some new software that knows who is watching or what? By the way I run Nvidia 8600 video and the video is perfect every where else. Sounds to me that the third party who builds the web site of these news organizations is the culprit with some HTML5 code. I have IE11 and all the news sites play video just fine. So how a bout it Mozilla?

Fixed the problem by reinstalling from the ground up. Reinstalled the OS and everything else. Of course, had to work my way through a few deactivations and reactivations. Suspect that I had been caught by a fake Flash installation but nothing I was using cleaned it. My motivation to do it anyway was getting a WD Black2.

I'm having the same problem. The ads play fine on CNN but go to a black line at the bottom with no sound no video. Some sites work OK. Others the video just flips with the controls flying by unacessably. Is anyone working on this problem? Is Adobe's head in the Cloud so much it can't do anything? This problem has been continuous for months. No one seems to have a real fix. I've tried uninstalling Flash and all my browsers and reinstalling and nothing works. I've run multiple virus and malware scans. This began when I tried to alter the settings because of the annoying "allow" "deny" pop-up which sometimes would click through and sometimes not and this was to avoid possible corruption from some rogue site writing to my computer which should never have been permitted in the first place. What's happeniing here? Is Adobe just flipping us off?

Oh, I tried reverting to previous versions to no avail. The worst disaster was trying a beta version of Firefox. Chrome - the video works ok, as you say, because the Flash is built in. But Chrome comes with it's own set of headaches. It is not really ready for prime time anywhere but on the Chrome OS. Elsewhere? Geez! It's really handy for these software companies (and the hardware ones as well) to point the finger elsewhere but no one is really doing anything. It's shocking to see a problem like this with no real management of the problem.
