Problem with downloading Flash Player

I have a Thinkpad with Windows XP. 32 bit version of Windows. Running IE8 and AVAST.

Am trying to download Adobe Flash Player 10.1. Am getting the following message: "The procedure entry point

could not be located in the Dynamic Link Library KERNEL32.DLL"

Am also getting a message which indicates the Active X Control for Flash Player could not be registered.

Any ideas as to how to resolve? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Download and save the executable installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.

If you still get the "ActiveX could not be registered" message, follow the instructions on this page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html

IE 8 works just fine, I'll be downloading the files as suggested. Question I have is the instructions say to save the files to the C:\Program Files \Windows Resource Kits\Tools\  directory.  This directory doesn't currently exist on my laptop. Do I need to create this directory or should the files go to another directory?

    Thanks.

Now this is very strange; according to http://support.microsoft.com/KB/141131 that entry point would only exist in Windows 95 and NT4.

What is the name of the installer you are running?  Also, can you right-click on it and check the version?

And while you are at it, can you also check the version of KERNEL32.DLL (in C:\Windows\system32)?

I'm downloading is Adobe DLM, - Adobe Flash Player 10.1

The version of KERNEL32.DLL is 5.1.2600.5781.

First, I assume that you are downloading for IE8 as you state, when you encounter this problem. I cannot remember all of the varied objections I got (like those you specicially stated) but I recall that there was quite a managery.

First, please be sure you downloading the IE version of adobe flash Player. If not, from my experiece, you will have such types of problems.

For the correct IE (or other) choice and how to do it, with the URL to access it, see the (my) last post in this thread: here
