Problems with Flash Player Mac 10.5.8 ppc (Yes, I've tried previous suggestions)

Guest
Nov 04, 2013 Nov 04, 2013

I have read all the feedback regarding what flash player to install on a Mac 10.5.8 ppc. I have done it sucessfully. However I'm still having problems viewing movies online.  I know it's not the webpage as it was working fine before I tried updating flash player (did not know I could not until it was too late). Please help

Flash Player 10.1.102.64

That's the most recent version that will run on 10.5.8 PPC Macs.

Download it.

Do a Spotlight search for "Flash Player.plugin". Search the Mac HD.

Trash EVERYTHING that appears in the results.

Empty the trash.

Unzip the file, Mount the flashplayer10_1r102_64_ub_mac.dmg, (it's the ONLY dmg of 9 files in the 10_1r102_64 folder) and run the installer for Flash Player.

You may need to reset Safari too. A good set of instructions are here: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Safari-on-a-Macintosh-Running-Leopard-or-Snow-Leopard

Have you tried installing it under another (admin) user account?

It's usually the best way to find out if your account has "permissions" problems.
Create a new (admin) account.

Log in to that account.

Run the installer.

If it works, you need to "repair permissions" on your account, using Disk Utility.

If it doesn't, it's something else.

It didn't work. Stiil crashes. I tried creating a new account. I repaired permissions (took a while) and nothing. It works on some video sites and not on others. Again I know It's not the website as I had been using it right before I made the mistake of trying to update flashplayer.

I'm totally confused now.

11.5 IS NOT a PPC plugin or a universal binary. It's strictly Intel, so there's no way it should have installed on a PPC framework.

Thanks for the knowledge. I'm sure I installed it along the way in my desperate attempts to make this work. However, I tried all of what you had suggested. I can uninstall if you have anymore suggestions.

Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins

Verify that the Flash Player.plugin file is not present.  If it is, trash it.

FinderScreenSnapz001.jpg

Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash Player

Verify that the Flash Player Install Manager folder does not exist.  If it does, trash the whole folder

FinderScreenSnapz002.jpg

Empty the trash.

THEN run the 10.1.102.62 installer.

Ok. I did what you requested.

1. Removed (trash) FlashPlayer.plugin

flashdelete.jpg

flashpludel.jpg

2. Checked that Flash Player Install Manager Folder was deleted

.jpg

FYI I did a spotlight search and found it in applications. I deleted that folder to trash.

3. I emptied the trash.

4. Installed 10.1.102.64 (I hope you meant this one as I could not find a 10.1.102.62 per your last entry)

5. Restarted Computer.

6. Confirmed FP Version was the one you wanted

7. Sad to report that site still crashes.

The site I'm wanting to use runs on JWPlayer. Could that be the issue? Does it matter?

I thank you for your time and help.

JW Player is a little "Quirky" and will usually require the latest Flash Player, or a browser that will handle HTML5 and CSS3, which unfortunately, a PPC Mac can't run.

Ok. Again it's just odd because it was working the day I tried updating the flashplayer. Too much of a coincidence for the website to change video player while I spend approx 7 minutes trying to update flashplayer.

You may have corrupted something when attempting to install the incompatible version (11).

You may want to try reinstalling Firefox.

Use AppZapper to remove it along with all the preferences, and then reinstall it fresh.

Appzapper didn't work. It kept crashing. I did what I could in trying to completely remove firefox. Still nothing. I'm starting to think there's no solution.
