prompted for administrator name and password when installing Flash Player (Mac)

On my Mac, when I first start and it says accept user terms and agreements and then I press Install a window comes up. It says Install Adobe Flash Player is trying to install a new helper tool. It says enter an administrators name and password to allow this. What does this mean

This is the operating system prompting for credentials to install the software.  The admin login and password is what you use to log into your system, assuming you have Administrator permissions.  See What userid & password do I need to install Flash Player? for more information.

Most software will do this. It's normal, and protects your Mac, so if someone gets to it while you are not watching (e.g. visiting children) they can't install software.
