Shockwave Flash keeps crashing in every browser (Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540, Windows 10)

Since several weeks shockwave Flash keeps crashing in every browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge) on my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 with Windows 10.

Most of the time the browsers freeze for several minutes until a Shockwave error message (about shockwave being busy and not responding) appears.

Sometimes the browser freezes permanently, so I have to use the task manager in order to close it.

I can't use 90% of the internet as it is!

I already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

Updated Windows 10

Updated graphic and sound drivers

Run sfc /scannow

un- and re-installed shockwave (latest version) and flash player (latest version)

disabled hardware acceleration

Sometimes one of the above steps solves the problem. The last time updating the graphic drivers did help.

But it never lasts longer than a few days. Suddenly Shockwave starts crashing again. And again in all browsers.

And now it tells me that my drivers are up to date, so I don't know what else I can do.

I'm very desperate, because I can't really track down the cause of the problem and didn't find a way to permanently fix it.

But I found several postings across the internet from people experiencing the same problem. And everytime it started with the installation of Windows 10. And often it's a Lenovo system.

I hope this information is helpful.

I'll appreciate any help!

Could you post a copy of your system's dxdiag report?

What is a Dxdiag report and how do I run one?

We've gotten a number of reports that Lenovo systems running Windows 10 are unstable with Flash, our best lead at this time (that I know of) is the audio driver.  I know you mentioned you updated yours, would be good to see what exactly is being run with the dxdiag output.

Re: Adobe Flash/Shockwave crashes immediately in all Browsers WINDOWS 10

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks.  As you noted, the drivers look up to date and the audio oem looks different than the other issues I've seen.

Do you have any security software running?  Could you try temporarily disabling it to see if it's interfering?  In fact, you might want to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled to see if that makes any difference.  If it does, then this indicates that some other software on your system is causing the conflict.

We are getting reports of a similar issue, Flash crashing with "A plugin (Shockwave Flash) isn't responding" with Chrome, IE, Firefox and Safari running the 19.0.0.185 of Flash player.  It's making out Flash-based application unusable for many of our customers.  I am planning on submitting a bug report for this, if there isn't one already. We are seeing this issue in Windows 7, Windows 10, OS X 10.10.15, etc.

This issue seems to come and go on our app.  Working on trying to get a Flash crash report log to report to Adobe.

P.S. Shockwave Player is not supported on Chrome or Edge.

No, I'm not talking about Flash Player. It's definitely Shockwave Player.

The full and exact error message (in German, for I have German language settings) reads as follows:

"Warnung: Nicht antwortendes Plugin.

Shockwave Flash ist möglicherweise beschäftigt oder reagiert nicht mehr. Sie können das Plugin jetzt stoppen oder fortsetzen, um zu sehen, ob das Plugin weiter arbeitet."

Translated it should read something like:

"Warning: unresponsive plugin.

Shockwave Flash is possibly busy or not reacting any more. You can stop the plugin now or continue, in order to see if the plugin continues to work."

And yes, you are right, I only get this error message in Firefox, not in Chrome or Edge. Chrome and Edge just stop playing videos and / or crash completely (the same as Firefox but without an error message).

But every time I get this error message in Firefox, all the other browsers stop working simultaneously. So it has to do with it at least somehow.

Even the pre-installed windows 10 video player (called "Film und TV" in German) as well as every other video player program I own (e.g. Media Player, DivX Player, Power DVD for Lenovo Think, VLC for Windows Store) stops working as soon as I get this error message in Firefox and when I start to play a locally saved video. The only difference is that I don't get an error message in those players. They just don't play the video and show either a black screen or the very first frame of the video.

And when that error message in Firefox vanishes (like when I updated the videocard drivers) I can also play videos in all the other browsers and also play my locally saved videos again.

But this never lasts longer than a few days, and then the error message returns all of a sudden.

This not only affects watching any type of video. Some other functionalities on websites are also affected. Like opening drop-down-lists when choosing the cause of a cancellation of an Amazon order, for example.

I don't know if it is really Shockwave Flash that is causing the problem or if this error message is just one symptom of another, bigger problem.

But it is the only error message I get, and it coincides with the problem every time. It starts the second I get this error message.

'Shockwave Flash' is Flash Player, not Shockwave Player!  What is your installed Flash Player version ("latest" means nothing)?

Shockwave Player content is rather rare on the Internet; are you perhaps talking about Flash Player?

What is the full and exact error message you are getting?
