Some flash content (like flash player settings) not visible

Hello,
I am running the newest versions of Flash Player in both FireFox 3.6 and IE8 on Windows XP Pro.
I can see most Flash things (like this page: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ which in both browsers says "You have version 10,0,45,2 installed"). Several things do not appear. For instance, none of the Settings Panel windows show up. Also, some Facebook apps do not work (i.e. Pet Society) while others by the same vendor (i.e. Crazy Planets) work fine.
Both browsers behave the same. I cannot see the settings windows in either one.
I have run the uninstaller, and re-installed Flash several times.
I'll be grateful for whatever help can be provided.
J

Thank you! I have the same exact problem, although via testing, it shows that I have Flash latest installed.
On the settings page, it says sth like: This requires Flash & under install Flash Player!
I am also running XP & latest Firefox.
Also, dosn't work on some places.
Hope someone answers!

Hi, the first thing to check in IE is the add ons. Look for Shockwave Flash Object and make sure Flash10e.ocx is there and it is enabled.
In FF, look for the plug-ins and SWF to see if it lists vs 10.0.45.2 and it is enabled.
Both must be there since they work with the Flash Player files.
Thanks,

Hi Wags, No problem on the name, I have many:-)
I have had so many problems this morning and afternoon, I am about to start my own thread.
Well, you have the correct SWO in IE and FF as well. Did you remember to Reboot after the Uninstall and Install?
If, so then the next step would be to take a look at the Flash Player files that are in the Flash folder. Perhaps an old Flash
file is still there.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. Open Flash and post back all files listed.
We'll do that first before digging deeper.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Thanks for doing what you do, blondie.
I did try rebooting after uninstallation, and again after installation of both the ActiveX and Firefox versions of Flash Player. I forgot to mentioned that I run Kaspersky antivirus, but I have tried all of this with it disabled. I also downloaded and installed the previous version of Flash Player for Firefox with no luck.
Here's a snapshot of that folder, I added the File Version column for verification:

Thanks Wags, all is correct in Flash folder for IE & FF. I am assuming the FP 10.0.45.2 was installed AFTER you tried vs 9?
Well, now we'll take a look at the Java. In Add/Remove, post back all Java listings, including vs #'s
Make sure you don't have the Adobe DLM(download manager) or GetPlus(it will be listed alphabetically, not under Adobe)
If either is there, use the Remove feature on both and Reboot.
Since you are having problems on those sites with both IE & FF, then I would suspect you have an add on in both that may be conflicting, possibly the same one.
Post back the Java info, ALL add ons in IE("View and manage your Internet Explorer add ons"), currently loaded, have been loaded and any other category MS uses.
Do the same for FF, plugins, add ons, extensions, etc.
List any Toolbars used also.
Since you have FP installed and confirmed that files are correct, then the above are suspect:-)
Thanks,
eidnolb

I actually tried an older version of 10, but yes, I went back to the current version.
The only Java is Java 6 update 18, I ran the Java update and it confirms that I'm current. Adobe DLM and GetPlus are already gone.

Could we concentrate on getting it running in IE? I never use IE and am willing to do any necessary experiements on it. It's more difficult to type up all my Firefox extensions and plugins (no easy copy & paste), and I would rather leave my otherwise fully functional Firefox installation alone. If not, maybe there's a plugin that dumps info about all the plugins into a text file.

I did an experiment: delete all browser history (cookies, history, etc. etc.) and disable all of the IE plugins (except FP of course) and go to the settings pages. Nothing.
When I right-click where the SWF object should be, I get the usual options (Zoom in, Show all, Quality, About Adobe Flash Player 10, etc.). It's like the SWF object loads but can't display.

Hi, thanks. I know copy & paste doesn't work well, if at all. And I think the feature for sending attachments is still disabled.
On the add ons in IE, these are suspect in my opinion. Web-Anti Virus Stat, 2 are listed, the Java 2SSV helper.
You could try Disabling them and see if there is any improvement.
You could also try this, Disable ALL add ons in IE, EXCEPT Shockwave Flash Object and Java except the Java 2SSV above
and check a website. If it doesn't work, go back in and Enable Windows Media Player in addition and try again. There are more that can be tried, but I am short on time here until later.
I am logging off in a few minutes, have an appt. Will check back in later.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Just saw your other post. Good idea, except don't disable Java except what I just posted. I'm assuming you are talking about "settings" within the website itself?
Ok, done..:-)

I did as you said and went here with only the Shockwave Flash Object and Java 2SSV enabled. Nothing showed. Enabled Windows Media Player and still nothing.
The area I'm right-clicking in is the area where the Flash object would normally be (that blank space in the page I linked above). I get the Flash context menu (Zoom in, etc.), but can't seem to make anything visible.
I'm going to investigate and maybe remove some of the mystery Addons. "Web Anti-Virus Statistics" is a Kaspersky Labs product, part of my Antivirus.
Tried removing Java for yucks (it's rarely used) - no luck.
Thanks again!

Hi Wags, Are you speaking of the Global Settings Manager site?
I think you enabled the Java 2SSV instead of disabling it. The other Java add ons you want enabled, but not that one.
What is the status now?
Thanks

Yes, I thought that Global Settings Manager site's Flash objects would be visible (I know I've used them before) but I tried it with another computer and they don't show up there, either.
Sorry, I misunderstood what you said about the Java SSV. In any case, I uninstalled Java and still no luck. I can re-install it and retest if you like.

Hi Wags, Ok, in IE, make sure Shockwave Flash Object is Enabled, and the Java except the 2SSV. I want you to go to this
link, not the one you have been using, but this one:

Let me know the results.
Thanks,

Well, Java is still gone so those add-ons are not present. Shall I re-install it?
However, using your link, the settings manager windows now appear in both IE and Firefox! It looks like the only change to the links was the addition of www in front of "macromedia.com". Is that correct?
No luck on the Facebook games front, though. The ones that work, work. Those that don't, don't.

Hi Wags, I found that out yesterday, because I reset my Global Settings last week. When I went to your "here" I got a blank just as you did. So I checked my link and saw yours lacked the www. Don't ask me, but that has to be entered:-)
I need to review your files, be back in a few.
On the facebook or other sites, have you ever received any messages that related to the Global Settings? I have because of how I have the various settings established.
Thanks,
eidnolb

I don't remember any requests like that.
I just read through Fuchikoma's thread and tried the experiment of creating a new user account on my computer. On that account, the Facebook games I mentioned work great in both IE and Firefox. Going back to my normal account, they don't work in either browser.

Hi Wags, I was looking for my post where I suggested to remove Java from IE and couldn't find it. You are moving the
goal posts:-) I know experiments are fun and all of that, but while I am working on something for you, then you have made a change and ............then I have to make a change and then you make a change and......:-)
Ok, since you want to leave FF in tact, let me know now what add ons are NOT in IE and different from the list that you
posted in #3 and post #7.
Thanks,
eidnolb
Also if you did not "remove" Java from IE, but only Disabled the installed add/ons, I need to know that.
Oh and while you are looking at the IE add ons, don't you have 3 Java plugins 1.6.0_18, instead of just 2 as you listed.
I know about the 2SSV Helper. Also you should have JQSIEStartDetectorImpl. Normally 5 Java add ons are installed.
Please check further on that.

Apologies. I uninstalled Java completely (from the add & remove software control panel). No Add-ons for any Sun Microsystems products were in IE after that.
I reinstalled Java and have four total Add-ons under the Sun Microsystems name in the Add-on manager. "JQSIEStartDetectorImpl", the two"Java Plug-in.." and FP Add-ons enabled. The SSV helper is disabled.
Still a couple of Facebook apps don't work. The revised link you posted (with the www. in front of macromedia) still works.
Compared to post #7, these add-ons are new:

Hi Wags, thanks. I am trying to find out what is causing IE to have the problems. As you know computers and all of the programs, etc are not PERFECT:-) When Uninstalling/Installing is done more than once whether it is FP or any other program, especially ones that affect the browser, glitches will happen. So troubleshooting is checking to see if a glitch has occurred and where and trying to fix it.
Now in the IE add ons for Java. I would like you to check the Java plug in 1.6.0_18 has installed in a file jp2iexp.dll and also one in npjpi160_18.dll.
Next Go to Control Panel, double click on the JAVA icon(coffee cup) click on Advanced Tab, double click on "Default Java for Browsers, make sure a check mark is entered beside IE and Mozilla Family. If it isn't, put them in. Click on apply,ok and Reboot. YOU CAN REBOOT AFTER YOU CHECK THE OTHER ITEMS I NEED CHECKED.
Using IE, Tools>Internet Options and click the Advanced Tab. Look for Java(Sun) use JRE1.6.0_18 for (<applet> requires
restart. Make sure a check mark is in the box. If not, put a check mark in, click apply, ok and close.
That is all for the moment. Yes, the thread for Fuchikoma was helpful, I wish he would have posted back his final solution.
After you are finished with the above and because you use XP, here is a good link with screenshots that may be helpful
on user accounts/Admin.

Blondie,
Both Java plug in 1.6.0_18 entries point to "jp2iexp.dll". None of the four Sun Microsystems plugins point to "npjpi160_18.dll". I checked "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin" and "npjpi160_18.dll" is there, version 6.0.180.7.
Both Mozilla Family and Internet Explorer were already checked in Java Control Panel -> Advanced -> Default Java for browsers.
"Java(Sun) use JRE1.6.0_18 for (<applet> requires restart" were already checked.
Thanks again!

Thanks for checking all of those things Wags. On that Java entry, it is an ActiveX control in my add ons. Maybe Java changed something. I don't think it's important, just curious.

Hi Wags, sorry for the delay, but as it happens sometimes I had several threads posting back info I had requested.
Let's take inventory on what we have and just where we are.
What I would like to do is get FP installed in IE, and Java. I have all of your add ons that you listed for me including the new ones. Thank you.
Now I would like to get FP and Java working in IE and put FF on the back burner for now.
I am somewhat concerned about Java. Here is what I would like you to do. Go to this Java test site:
http://www.java.com/en/ Click on "Do I have Java" Make note of the results. Right below that it says "Test your Virtual Machine" Do that also and make note of the results.
Also I need you to check the Flash folder and post back the files installed, in IE
Confirm that SWO is installed in the add ons as 10.0.45.2 and enabled, in IE
I know it seems as I am asking for the same info, but with so many changes I need to have a foundation on which to proceed and need to know what it is. It gets too confusing to try to work with the IE and FF browsers at the same time.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hi blondie,
I went to the Java site and got this result:
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 18).
Flash is installed and enabled in IE:

The C:\Windows\System32\Macromedia looks the same as it did earlier.
