I am trying to install a PC game that is Windows XP/Vista/7 compatible, but I keep getting a dialogue box stating I need to install Macromedia Flash Player. I have the current version of Adobe Flash Pklayer installed.

Hello Mike. The game is "Curse of the Opera" from Mastertronic. I have been in touch with them via email and was advised to try different Windows versions from W95 for compatability. I did so, but knew that would not work because the problem is installing the game on my computer, not playing it.

If you're installing from a CD-ROM, Instead of double clicking the CD in "My Computer", RIGHT CLICK it and select "Open".
When it opens, RIGHT CLICK the setup.exe file and choose "Properties".
Under the Compatibility tab, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select the EARLIEST version that it lists (Windows 95, hopefully).
Click "Apply" and "OK". THEN double click setup.exe.

Mike, I tried what you suggested and tried all other windows versions, including servers, as I stated in my previous response. Nothing doing! The same dialogue box appears stating, "The games requires Macromedia Flash Player. Please download the latest Flash Player and run the game again."

Unfortunately, it would seem that there is code in the installer that checks the version, and (I've seen this myself), it's looking for a version lower than 10 or 11, but... because it uses a single digit check code, it reads 10 or 11 as "1" and it fails the check.
If the game is that important to have, then:
Download the Flash Player uninstaller.
Downloadthe Flash Player 9.0.280 archive.
Run the uninstaller to remove your current Flash Player.
Run the installer for Flash Player 9, and then try the game installer.
If it installs, THEN update your Flash player back to 11.9 Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer) or Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
If ti doesn't install, you're probably out of luck unless you know how and where to alter the installer code to accept a 2-digit version of Flash Player.

Mike, thanks for the additional advice. I followed exactly what you advised, but unfortunately the same thing happened. I got the same error message with the earlier version of Flash Player and again when I updated to the latest version. I am surprised that I am having this problem because the game's sleeve states it is Windows XP/Vista?7 compatible and DirectX 7.0 (or higher) is required. My operating system is Win7 and I have the latest version of Flash Player and DirectX.
I have another game, "Mystery Places - Curse of the Midnight Manor", that installed OK, but will not open. I have also tried all versions of Windows from 95 to 7 to try to get it to work, but it just will not start. All I get is a brief flash of the first screen then nothing.
Thanks again for your suggestions. It is a shame neither have worked.
