Adobe is a company which makes lots of different software.
Which Adobe software title are you used to using?
The main free one made by Adobe is Adobe Reader for viewing PDF files. Is that the one you mean?

Adobe Reader IS free.
What are you seeing on your screen which tells you that you must now pay for it? Are you trying to install Adobe Acrobat XI (paid) instead of Adobe Reader (free)?
What exactly are you updating?

You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says All communities) to open the drop down list and scroll

Not "Adobe". Not Adobe Reader. But Flash Player.
As Ned says, Flash player is (and always has been) free.

You still have not told us what you see on screen which tells you that you have to spend money.
