Why can't I watch any videos at NPR's website on my iMac?

I can't watch any videos on NPR website on my iMac. I can however watch videos on YouTube and every other website I have tried them on. I have the latest Flash Player and am using the Safari Browser on my iMac with Mountain Lion OS X v.10.8.4. All I get is a dead page when I click a link to a music video on the NPR site...there is a dark, blank video screen with a start/play arrow..I click on that and nothing every happens.....There is also a link on these pages to download the audio version of the music and that works just fine..I download an mp3 to the desktop and listen to it through iTunes...but If I want to see any of the NPR videos I have to find them on YouTube and watch them there. A royal pain in the butt. I have contacted NPR and they cannot figure out what my problem is caused by. Any clue? Am I the only person in the universe this is happening to? I tried Googling various topics to cover the issue and find nothing. I am very frustrated...especially since I just had my computer upgraded and totally cleaned up. It's a Mac for crying out loud. This ain't suppose to happen to me...it......oy!  Can anyone  help me here? I'd greatly appreciate it.

for example: on this page:

http://www.npr.org/event/music/201517132/dana-falconberry-tiny-desk-concert

when I go to this page, the http://www/npr.org is highlighted in the address space but the rest of the url is light gray....the staus bar is blank...it's like it goes into shock at that point and ends there...although, as I said..I can use the hot 'download audio' link and download the audio version of the performance to my desktop....

I'm sorry..I could have sworn I replied after I had this issue resolved. I called a local retired Mac tech here that was recommended to me by my local Radio Shack...He fixed the problem in a matter of minutes over the phone. He charged me $20..I paid heim $30...Affter spending 2 days with the person here at the forum to no avail I was ecstatic once I could view the videos and use the Shutterfly website again. This is what he had me do...if I reall:

    Users/ Library/ preferences/ Macromedia folder.

He had me trash the entire folder. I rebooted and all was as it should be. I guess all it took was to find someone who knew what they a were doing. No offense...the other person here was trying hard to be help solve it. Please pass on the resolution so he/she is better informed the next time someone else has this problem. They probably won't...That's the way it goes here in computer twilight zone. Have a great day. Thanks for getting in touch.

Odd. Usually (but as we see here, not always) the preferences files (.plist) are overwritten when a new install is performed. THAT's why I don't include deleting the preferences or folders in the "clean install" steps. Once in a while, a system WON'T overwrite, and we get what we had here. I'm glad it worked out, and things are "as they should be". Not that I don't know what I'm doing, I just didn't see a need to delete something that's usually replaced by a reinstall.

Thanks for passing it along and I'll make a note "just in case" I ever run into a "stubborn case" like this again.

Hi there~ Thank you but I do have that selected in the prefs. I have tried checking 'Allow Java'....and unchecking 'Allow Java', as well...makes no difference. This is mind boggling. I just don't get it. But thanks for trying.

Download the offline installer here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac /install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg

If it won't download directly, right click and "Save as"…

DO NOT mount the DMG or run the installer yet!

Quit your Browser (Press Cmd+Q - Don't just close the window)

    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins

Trash the Flash Player.plugin file from there

    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe

Trash the Flash Player folder (the whole folder)

    Empty the trash

Reboot (This will "kill" all running processes)

Before launching any apps, mount the DMG and run the installer.

BEFORE opening any Flash content in Safari, open Safari>Preferences, and check the Security tab once again to make sure "Allow all other plugins" is checked.

I did the installation..I rebooted..I checked my Safari preferences....I tried the NPR website and the Shutterfly website and there is no change in either. I also re-installed the JavaAppletPlugin that had gotten trashed, I think, when I had unchecked the  'Allow Java' awhile ago. That made no difference with my problem either. There is STILL NO Flash PLayer folder in the HD/Library/Application Support/ Adobe folder. Shouldn't there be one like there is in yours??? Does that tell you anything????? I am frustrated.

Getting into "last resort" territory here.
Try creating a new "admin" user account and install Flash Player while logged on with  that account. If it works and you see the plugin folder... You'll need to "repair permissions" under your user account.

    Safari>Preferences

Make sure the "Allow all other plugins" is checked under the Security tab
