Hi gz, Well, it helps to know what operating system you use and what browser(s) and versions. Windows XP, Vista, etc.
IE6, 7 or 8. Firefox or any other browsers?
Also did you Unistall before trying to Install?
Thanks,
eidnolb

Ok, thanks. You can go up to Help and click on About Internet Explorer, it will tell you there.
Whenever you want to Install the latest version of Flash Player, you must use the Adobe Uninstaller:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html You want to download this and SAVE it to your Desktop.
Then download and SAVE this IE Installer to your Desktop:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax .exe
Once you have that done, go to Tools, click on Internet Options and click on the Security Tab. You want to set the Security for the Internet Zone to Medium.
Before you begin any of this, post back your Anti-Virus/Spyware/Firewall info. Any or all may block the download of the
ActiveX Control and I need this info so you will know what to do before you try to Uninstall.
Also you will need to run as Administrator.

Thanks for posting my exact same problem.
I am trying to use the above fix, but the macromedia page "cannot be found".
I am using internet explorer, since adobe listed chrome as a download problem.
I share this computer, but I am the admistrator. I'm trying to download neccessary programs that will allow non administrators to surf, but not ruin the fourth hard drive on this Dell xps m140 laptop.
I'm using updated Kaspersky antivirous, and the only downloads on the new drive are windows updates, a java program and adobe reader 9 and acrobat, but flash and shockwave; I have not been able to download to my xp home edition.

Although it's not listed by clicking my program button, the flash and shockwave say intallation completed. I typed in macromedia.com and it took me to the adobe page: Who knew.
Perhaps now the "you need Adobe ***" won't show up upon going to every page on the net, or at least it will show the content after clicking cancel on the "install Adobe" popup.
Does using Adobe, or clicking "get Adobe player" help invader attacks? How does one verify that these pop ups aren't Phished active x links?

This is for 00johnn, I have noticed your posts also, but may I suggest to you also to start a thread in your name. That way you will have individual help, since it gets too confusing when 2-3 people are on the same thread. Each person understands their own computers and what they have, etc, but I can't keep it straight when it is on one thread.
Pick any subject that you like for your thread and that way it will be better for you and whoever is helping you. Keep in mind too, no one knows you are here:-)
Your own thread will get better help.

Hi gz, thanks for the info. Did you have any trouble downloading the Uninstaller or Installer to your Desktop?
Set your Security to Medium?
Running as Administrator?
If my question #1 is no and #2 & #3 are yes, you don't have to bother answering me.
McAfee Security causes problems Installing Flash Player. I think you have a McAfee icon in your system tray by the clock.
When you right click on that icon, can you "Disable", "Pause", etc? You need to know how to Disable it during the Uninstall/Install.
Does the McAfee have a Firewall included? If not, do you have any third party Firewall other than Windows Firewall?
If so, then you will need to know how to Disable the Firewall unless it is Disabled when you Disable McAfee.
As soon as we can clear this up, then we can get started.

ok, here is where i am at. have set security to medium. have downloaded uninstaller to desktop. have attempted to download installer to desktop, but keep getting message "this webpage unavailable". have turned off the mcaffe firewall. have NOT paused mcaffe security yet. so at this point, seems like the issue is how to download installer. and thanks again. are you an employee or just volunteer this work? i sure appreciate it. gz

Hi gz, I don't know what is wrong with that link, try it again.

I tried the link that I posted for you previously and got the same message. Try this one, which I think is the same one. Perhaps just a glitch.
Just take your time, you should be fine. If you have any further questions, just ask. I would rather you ask, than guess:-)
Thanks,

Hi, ok good. If this is your computer, you would have set up the Administrator account at the beginning. You don't want to use a "User account" or "Limited account". Those would be accounts that you also would have set up for other people and they don't have permission to install ActiveX Controls, etc. If you installed Flash Player previously you probably are the Administrator. Go to the clock in your system tray, with your mouse, right click right over the time, when the window opens, post back what you see.

P.S. I forgot, after you right click on the time, then you need to left click on the "Adjust Date/Time", then tell me what you see. I'm in the process of fixing dinner, so was distracted:-)

Hi gz, You are the Administrator, that is what the clock test was for. The steps that I am getting ready to list for you to
Uninstall/Install.
Will post them in a minute.

Ok, Please follow these steps in the order given.
1. Disconnect from the Internet
2. Disable McAfee/Firewall
3. Check to make sure no applications that use Flash are in the system tray.
4. You already set Internet Zone Security to Medium
5. Close all browsers
6. Click on the Uninstaller on your Desktop and RUN it.
7. When finished, Reboot(restart) your computer. When it is fully rebooted, Reboot again(to clear old files)
8. At this time, check and make sure McAfee is still Disabled and also the Firewall. If it has enabled itself, Disable both again.
9. Click on the Installer on your Desktop and RUN it.
10. When finished, Reboot Once.
11. Re-enable your McAfee and Firewall
12. Re-connect back to the Internet
Go here to test: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about
Then post back and I'll have you check your Flash files and the Shockwave Flash Object add on.
Any questions?

not there yet.
i followed the instructions to a "T", but didnt work out. first i turned off the mcafee firewall and spyware. then i ran the uninstaller, and got a window that said "adobe flash player uninstaller setup: completed". so far, so good, i thought. then i shut down and rebooted twice. then i turned off the mcafee firewall and spyware again and clicked one install button on my desktop. the "thermometer" made it about 1/3 of the way across the scale, then i got a window withthe message "adobe flash player active-x setup failed to install.
what might i try now????
p.s. your instructions were perfect....right at my level. gz

Hi, well it sounds like you did just great. So I see that McAfee did re-enable itself after that first Reboot. Something blocked the installation of the ActiveX Control which the message shows. Normally this would be a Firewall, McAfee,
not having permission. You made sure that McAfee and the Firewall were disabled prior to Installing and we determined
you were the Administrator.
Do you use any pop up blocker software? Any ad blocker?
You can answer those questions in your next post. Right now here is what I want you to do. Go up to Tools and click on manage add ons (all add ons or "currently loaded or have been loaded") and find Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control...Flash10.e.ocx, make sure it is listed and enabled. Now, if the "Flash??.ocx (the first? is a number, the second? is a letter. If it is not Flash10e.ocx, I need to know how it is listed.
If Shockwave Flash Object is not listed at all, I need to know that also.
Thanks,
