Flash Is Forever - It will Survive Past 2020 - Here is how!
Big teck wants flash dead. I dont and neither do plenty of others working hard to preserve a cultural treasure. Flash lives on and can be better than ever with the support of the people.
Sites can update the way they do things to allow flash to function normally long after 2020 and with more security than the older ways.
I hope everyone... yes you will learn about and tell others of Ruffle, Waflash, Apache Royale, and CheerpX. Thats the future of flash on web sites.
There are a few issues but they are working on it. Spreading the news and showing support is how great things are done. Sites can even allow mobile users to join in these days. A thing that was always fought against before.
Thats Ruffle, Waflash, Apache Royale, and CheerpX.
I heard about a browser intended for flash called Puffin. It also can work with mobile devices but is sadly cloud based.
You can as always play files off line with an independant standalone player for Swf files / Flash. By standalone I mean a program / app that works all by itself to play a media file. In this case load your .swf file in one and there you go. No browser needed and not to be confused with a plugin that lets your browser play flash.
There are lots of them and I have no favorite. A good one can play most files more or less as intended provided the swf file wasnt originally an incomplete creation or something that required internet connection. Different standalone players have their quirks on what they will play right. So perhaps get more than one.
With a swf player built for mobile devices you can play saved swf files on your mobile device too. Not all swfs were meant for mobile devices though. Perhaps some clever fellow will help in the future.
As with all programs there is the risk of something naughty in the code but ive never had an issue.
Flash is being archived. Join in.

There are also the good people who were archiving long before the others. Here is one. https://dagobah.net
There are others of course but im not mentioning my favorite one.
Help out and tell the world. No more doom and gloom. If we work for it there is a bright future.
Preserve what you can y8, albinoblacksheep, weebls-stuff, somethingaweful flash tub, armor games, kongregate, and newgrounds are some names worthy of mention amongst many. Feel free to add to the list.
How to save swf files.
Some sites are nice and just need you to right click a link and save the swf file. Most need you to load the file in the browser.
There are also web scrapers (Webpage Downloaders) if you can figure out how to work one and use it on a site that is friendly to them. I suggest using Cyotek. The files you are looking for are likely .swf format. Keep the files per minute low. Dont want to break a site or make them use capchas.
If you load the swf file in firefox or waterfox you can right click somewhere, hit page info, wait for the popup to load, select media, sort by type, and save your swf file again. Be sure to check it in a working player to see if you got the right one. It likely wont have a name you find familiar.
Alternatively if you load the swf file in firefox or waterfox you and right click, select inspect element, at the top of what pops up should be a bar with lots of words, select network, sort by type, find your swf file no matter what strange name it was given, right click and save it.
Someone out there doesnt want this known and marked me into spam oblivion. Share the news if you love flash.
