Flash Player Compatible with IE10 64 Bit?

Guest

I am running Windows 7 64 bit with IE10 64 bit version.  The flash player version 11.7.700.169 was working OK until I downloaded the latest version 11.7.700.202.  Now I can get Youtube videos to play, but only in HTML5 mode.  When I go into the link http://www.youtube.com/html  it specifically stated that I was not in the trial.  I also got the message “Your web browser has blocked this site from using an Active X control in an unsafe manner.  As a result, this page might not display correctly.”  I tried getting into IE’s internet options, security, custom level, then enabled “Initialize and script Active X controls not marked as safe for scripting.” The flash player worked in Adobe’s mode although I kept getting popups from Microsoft saying there was a security problem.      I have tried removing the plug-in version of flash player and reinstalling it.  I also have the Active X edition installed.  When I go to control panel, Adobe flash player, it states that both versions of the flash player are installed with the latest edition.  The red icon also states Flash Player 32 bit.  While in IE’s browser, if I navigate to the adobe page that checks to see if your version is installed, all I get is a gray box.  This only happens when I am using IE10 and Avant’s browsers.  While in Firefox or Chrome the videos play fine, and the Adobe web page states that my version is Windows 64 bit, browser Chrome.   I really don’t think there is a conflict between the browsers.  I read somewhere that the flash player does not work in IE’s 64 bit, but only in IE’s 32 bit, in which case I would have to reinstall the previous version of IE.  Now I am getting the message “An add on to this site failed to run.”  Again, this only happens in IE and Avant, not Firefox or Chrome.  If the flash player doesn’t work in the 64 bit, why does the download proceed?  Before downloading it says you have Windows 7 64 bit IE I believe and, therefore, there is a presumption that it will work.  There is something on one web page that is somewhat hidden that says, “for 64 bit users.”

Flash Player should work fine on 64-bit Internet Explorer.  Do you have the Shockwave Flash Object add-on enabled?

Where do you get that message “An add on to this site failed to run.”?

Thank you.  I read somewhere on this forum where someone had installed the 64 bit version on IE9.   Shockwave is enabled.  I get the message every time I go to a Youtube site, or any other site that plays videos like the weather channel.  At the top of the screen a display first pops up stating that I need Adobe installed.  That quickly goes away and at the bottom of the page I get the add on failed to run message.  I tried removing Adobe’s Active X from add/remove programs and did a reinstall.  After the installation a screen displayed stating that the installation was successful.  I realize that IE and Avant use the Active X version and not the plug in version.  I used IE and Avant for years without any problems, and have just recently added the Chrome and Firefox.  If I remember correctly, before I added Chrome and Firefox I got a message at the top of a screen in IE stating that I needed the plug in.  So I installed it.  I get the impression that I didn’t need the plug in and that may be where the problem started.  At this point I am inclined to remove Adobe by using the uninstall tool and then remove the remaining files from the instructions on Adobe’s site.  If I use the uninstall tool can I just remove the Active X version, or will it remove the plug in version too?  Can I reinstall everything by using the plugin MSI installer or should I install the plug in separately from the Active X?

I have run Adobe’s uninstaller and also removed the residual files according to the instructions on the webpage.  Then I rebooted my computer and reinstalled the Active X version.  It still doesn’t work in IE.  When I got into Chrome the flash player was working, even though I had not installed the plugin version.  When I got in Firefox it said you need Adobe to run the videos.  When in Avant’s browser, the rendering engine was set to Chrome but it didn’t work; also, IE standards or Firefox didn’t work.  Now that I have added the plugin version, all browsers work except IE.  It is a shame that IE has to have it’s own version of flash player.  I wonder if all traces of flash player were really removed, since Chrome has flash player built in.  Are there files of flash player in the Windows directory tree under Chrome?  I see an entry titled “PepperFlash.”  Is removing Chrome the answer to the problem?   After removing Adobe, I wish I had checked each browser to see if any of them were working before reinstalling flashplayer.

The only way I can get it to work in IE is to enable "Initialize & script Active X controls not marked as safe for scripting" and enable "run Active X controls and plugins."  Now I get the message "Your security settings put your computer at risk."  Prior to this I got the message "IE blocked an Active X Control so this page might not display correctly."  I have tried changing the security bar from medium to high, nothing works.  I downloaded a bunch of Microsoft updates recently, so this might be a Microsoft problem.

I finally got it to work.  You must enable "Run Active X controls & plugins and "Script Active controls marked safe for scripting."  I will post all of the settings tomorrow so no one else will have to go through this.  It's time for me to go to bed!

These are the settings I found that work with IE10 64 bit, Windows 7 64 bit, and Adobe 11.7.700.202.  It is not clear to me what the original problem was, but if you are getting ActiveX errors changing these settings may solve the problem.  Go to control panel, internet options, security, custom level.  Under ActiveX controls & plug-ins:

Allow ActiveX Filtering - Disable

Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt - Disable

Allow Scriptlets - Disable

Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls - Disable

Binary & script behaviors - Enable

Display video & animation on a webpage that does not use external media player - Disable

Download signed ActiveX controls - Prompt (recommended)

Download unsigned ActiveX controls - Disable (recommended)

Initialize & script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting - Disable (recommended)

Only allow approved domains to use ActiveX without prompt - Enable

Run ActiveX controls & plug-ins - Enable

Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting - Enable

Where do you enable "Run Active X Controls & Plugins and Script Active Controls marked safe for scripting" in Internet Explorer 10?

Type "control panel" in the lower left start box of your computer.  When in "control panel" click "internet options."   Then click the "security tab."  Then click the "custom level" button.  Scroll down the list until you get to "ActiveX controls and plug-ins."  Keep scrolling down until you get to the two entries.  You should see a list of circles next to the entries you want to disable or enable or prompt.  Fill in the circles marked "enable."
