Notification from Adobe regarding Flash Player Updates

New Here ,
May 17, 2010 May 17, 2010

Hello,

I work with a county wide non profit library system and we seem to have issues every so often with bringing up websites that use Adobe Flash to run their video player and game functionalities within the websites.   I've contacted Adobe to try and find out if there's any way at all that we could get on an email Distribution list to notify us everytime the Flash Player application plug-in for the web gets updated.  This would give us a "heads-up" pro active approach to this issue and allow us to serve our patrons more efficiently and effectively rather than waiting till we get complaints that our PCs aren't running Flash on them when we know that we are and the build just isn't the same.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Mike

And - did you hear back anything from Adobe?

I don't think there is such a thing as an email distribution list for updates.  However, there are websites like http://www.calendarofupdates.com/updates/index.php?app=calendar or http://www.majorgeeks.com/ where all kinds of software updates are published daily.

There is also http://www.cnet.com/techtracker/ where you can subscribe to various softwares, and you will get email notifications of available updates.

P.S. do not publish your email address in a public forum like this, unless you want it to end up on multiple spammers lists.

Hi Bob, I don't know if this would be helpful in this situation, but I use the Global Notification Settings @

http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager05.html

Thanks,

I tried copying and pasting the link to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_man ager05.html, but it came up with a sorry message about the link not working. i clicked on it directly from the notification email I received from adobe and it worked, it does already have a checkbox in the manager and it is checked and set for 7 days, however I receive no emails or haven't anyway so far.

However, I do appreciate any/all help and suggestions provided.

Thank you

Mike

Hello, thank you for the feedback. Adobe Flash Player is working on Flash Player 10.1 and that will be the next release. I haven't checked in the last 2 days, but the prerelease versions are coming out fast. I read on another Adobe forum that this 10.1 is coming soon, May or June 2010 is the target date.

Hopefully the fact that you already have the notification selected you will receive that when released.

Regards,

eidnolb

According to the Flash Player download link from Adobe.com. The current version of Flash is

Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.45.2 from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP.

At this point, the cnet.com download program might be the best bet for this, but I do appreciate all of the help in the comments given thus far.

Alternatively, you can bookmark the below page and open the page periodically - it will list your Flash Player Version and the latest version available for download.

First thing, I logged and Adobe ticket, Tech Support replied as I expected stating that they have nothing to do with this in any way. I called their 800 which just happens to be for both Customer Service and Tech Support, I asked to speak with Customer Service. I spoke with someone there, explained the issue, they asked me to hold, came back and explained that they had no such Email Distribution List. I made a suggestion to have it since there are so many Public Service Organizations that have difficulty keeping up and no regulating body to make any websites use a specific build of Adobe Flash Version 10. She said she'd make note of it and that was it.

In regards to:

It's a good page, but there's nothing there for Adobe Flash Player, There is a listing for Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.7.609 .

Nothing on http://www.majorgeeks.com/  for Adobe Flash Player.

http://www.cnet.com/techtracker/  might work, I'll have to download it and install it to see if Flash is there or not.

Thank you again for your links and suggestions.

I always appreciate any help that I can get.

Mike

Well, Techtracker will tell me if my machine is up to date, so I guess that is something.
