Hi,
I understand that Flash Player 10 now comes with a revamped Text layout engine that supports bidi. I was curious whether I need to wait for Flex 4 before my Flex text components will use the Flash Player 10 bidi support, or would simply retargetting my Flex 3 projects to Flash Player 10 suffice?

Thanks for your prompt response!
Mihnea

We're hoping to add some amount of BiDi support in Flex 4. We need to upgrade controls to use the new text engine, so you don't get it for free unfortunately.

Matt

On 7/2/08 5:39 AM, "Mihnea Galeteanu" <member@adobeforums.com> wrote:

A new discussion was started by Mihnea Galeteanu in

Developers --
BiDi features

Hi,
I understand that Flash Player 10 now comes with a revamped Text layout engine that supports bidi. Is there a time frame for this? Also, do you have some indication as to when Flash Player 10 will be officially released? Tx in advance.

Flex 4 is in 2009. FP 10 is this year, but can't say more.

On 7/2/08 9:12 AM, "Mihnea Galeteanu" <member@adobeforums.com> wrote:

A new message was posted by Mihnea Galeteanu in

Developers --
BiDi features

Is there a time frame for this? In this video http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/demos/videos/text.html Justin is demoing what he says is a Flex Application that's using the new text layout in Flash Player 10 to render BiDi text. How can I get my Flex application to do the same 🙂 ?
And, if I cannot use whatever he's using, is there a workaround in Flex 3/Flash Player 9 to at least give us some limited BiDi support? Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

You'll need to use the text features of Player 10 directly, but our controls will not leverage those in the Flex 3 line. We are planning to incorporate more of those features into the Flex 4 components.

Matt

On 7/3/08 8:55 AM, "Mihnea Galeteanu" <member@adobeforums.com> wrote:

A new message was posted by Mihnea Galeteanu in

Developers --
BiDi features

In this video http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/demos/videos/text.html Justin is demoing what he says is a Flex Application that's using the new text layout in Flash Player 10 to render BiDi text.
