The Add/Edit Variable dialog opens blank when I select a user variable and click the edit button. Why is this not working?

Hi Richard,

Could you please test the same behavior in a new FM document? Let me know if you still have blank Add/Edit Variable pod in FM2015. Also please confirm the complete version of FM2015 from Help>About FrameMaker.

Cheers!

Hi Ashish,

In a new FM document (no template) I created two variables and both resulted in blank Name and Definition fields after clicking the Edit button.

I’m using FM version 13.0.1.385 purchased 01/2016.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the information. First of all you should try to update your FM to latest version 13.0.2.433. Please go to Help> Updates.., to update it.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, please try the steps below:

  • Close FM 2015.
  • Go to C:\Users\[your-username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker and rename the Folder “13” to “13_old”
  • Go to C:\Users\[your-username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe and rename the folder “Linguistics” to “Linguistics_old”
  • Go to C:\Users\[your-username]\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe and rename folder “Linguistics” to “Linguistics_old”

Launch FM and test the issue in a blank document.

Cheers!

Hi Ashish,

I updated to v. 13.0.2.433: still could not edit user variables

Followed your renaming instructions, opened new blank file: could edit newly created variables

Opened existing file: could not edit user variables

I did discover a work-around, but I’ll leave it to Adobe to say whether this is a feature or a bug: if an instance of my user variable is selected in text, the definition will then appear in the Add/Edit Variable panel . If I deselect the text instance, the definition and name disappear from the panel.

Thanks,

Richard
