Our clients want Word files in addition to Help and PDFs. They need to be able to base their custom documentation on our content, and they don't have FrameMaker. FM9 saves RTF files that look pretty decent, so we want to offer RTF versions of everything we produce. We want to automate the process of saving all of the chapters in a book in RTF. The ideal tool would also open the RTF files in Word and save them in DOC format (to reduce file size), and then make a zip file containing all of the DOC files. But even a tool that only saves all chapters in a book in RTF format would be great. Can you recommend something? I'm not a developer, but I have access to developers.

The best tool for saving FM files as RTF is omsys.com's MIF2Go -- it'll easily save each book component as a discrete file.
For opening and saving them as DOC files, I'd have your developers create a Word macro or VB script. You could probably direct the script to check a certain directory for rtf files, and when it finds some, convert and move them....
