Recently, my home versin of Framemaker 10 refuse to display content. I have opened several files that I created in FM 10 but I get a blank page display. when i close the file, I will often get a flicker on the screen showing the that the content is indeed there, just not displayed for editing.

Any one have a similar experience and hopefully some advice on solving this?

If you create a new document, can you see the text?

When you open an old, and click-drag the text select cursor where text should be, does it look like anything is being selected?

There are a number of ways the text could be there, but be invisible or hidden. Some snap guesses:

  • a Condition Code got applied and is set to Hide
  • text color got set to white
  • text color isn't white, but whatever it is is set to Invisible in Color Views
  • Master Page layouts got trashed, shoving text out of view
  • black got redefined

If it was working before, what's changed? If it never worked before, need some details about O/S version, memory, etc.

If you can create a brand new file (and assuming that the window displays as expected), also open the old FM file then do a File > Import > File to select the content from one of the problem files. Be sure to choose "import by Copy" rather than import by Reference. If this works ok, then save the new file as a new name, close FM, reboot your system, and try to open the new file. Does it display as expected?

Also, did you try rebooting after you first experienced the problem?

And finally, what specific FM version as shown on Help > About, including any "pxxx" numbers.

Try the following:

1. Close all FM 10 sessions

2. Rename the application data folder for FrameMaker. It is kept at "%appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker\10". Rename it to something like "%appdata%\Adobe\FrameMaker\10_backup" so that you don’t lose your settings in case you want to revert.

3. Start new session and open the document.

It could be that your display is turned off. Try Escape wr or Control+ l (lower case L). This happens to me if I run a FrameScript that turns the display off and the script crashes.
