IMHO it was a good idea to replace the distiller route by the PDFL route for creating PDFs from FrameMaker. However, there is still room for improvements. In particular, I and others miss the handling of the pdfmark operator via PDFL.
ShlomoPerets provides a great set of functions based on this Acrobat feature, which currently requires to use the Distiller route - an interruption in the daily process using the PDFL route.
PDFL seems to be Adobe's proprietary library implementation - not an implementation of the world-wide used PDF library from Thomas Merz . This library supports the pdfmark operator by a mechanism called blocks.
