I searched the site and it seems that only FrameMaker 9 is available as a demo download. Is the last version available anywhere else? I emailed the webmasters but they haven't gotten back to me.

If you can get / borrow an FM 8 CD you can install in trial mode. Unfortunately FM's trial mode doesn't allow saving documents, a major deficiency IMHO.

I was quite surprised to find a version of 8 available on the Adobe download web page yesterday (08/03/09) -- there's a notice saying that it's there for existing customers who had trouble upgrading to SP3. I have no idea what that means, or what is actually in the download (rolled up patches, some kind of SP3 fix, working OLE.... who knows?), but it is online and available for download.

Art,

afaik this solves the problem that the original CD installer of FM8 doesn't work with Windows XP SP3. So the description seems a little bit wrong. It's the FM installer, which ist fixed for working with Win XP SP3, and does not cure anything if you have troubles updating your Windows installation.

Thanks for the follow-up info, Bernd.

I had installed before sp3 shipped so I didn't have that problem, but I downloaded it to have an archive copy.

Cheers,
