Hello,
In a FM document I have an image :
Is it possible to put a math symbol inside the image (by moving it with the mouse on the image), and how to do this ?

Hi Pierre:
It's been a while! Hope you are doing well.
So you are asking how to add text (a math symbol) over top of this image? You can do that by adding it either as a Text Line or in a Text Frame. Both tools are in the Graphics toolbar.
If it's just a single character, a text line would work – they're weird though — just be aware you cannot assign a paragraph style to a text line nor will it ever word wrap. So for a paragraph you would always want a text frame, but a text line will accept a character style so that should be all you need.
Once added, you can drag either around with the object selection tool if you need to adjust its position.

Hi Barb,
I am fine. Thank you. And I hope you too.
PS : Very beautiful new profile icon.
I have tried to use the "text line" function with a math symbol, so I have the cursor inside the text line and choose "new equation" in the equation pod :
But I have an error message saying me : "put the cursor in a text zone" :

Thanks! I made the avatar as part of an Adobe Community Experts Firefly challenge (it's Adobe's new Generative AI tool). We were pretty limited in what tools we could use so she doesn't really look like me, but at least she's my age!
Ok, if you are using the equations palette, you will need a text frame. It sits in there with the Text line tool. Just draw out a frame, click inside and then add the equation. The reason I mentioned the Text line tool is if you just need a single math symbol, you can add it without the equations editor by changing the font to Symbol.
I'm around for a bit, so come back if you need more details.

If I understand well, there are single math symbol outside the equation palette, but I don't understand how to display them.

If what you are looking for is in there, you can type in a character on the keyboard and change the typeface (aka Family) to Symbol. Otherwise, draw a text frame and use the equation palette.

In character catalog, I have not "Symbol". Why ?

Barb mentioned "Symbol", but this is not a character format, but the name of a font with symbols.
You have to create a character format with this font yourself. Open the Character Designer, click somewhere outside of any text frame and then set the details in the Character Designer. Especially the Symbol font or possibly the font size! And then click Create Style. Now select any character and apply this character format. If it works, apply it to the character on top of your diagram.
I hope that you get your issue resolved before Christmas 😉
Merry Christmas to you and to all who follow this thread.
Best regards, Winfried

Hi Winfried,
Thank you ! Merry Christmas to you too and to all people on this forum.
Ok, I have succeeded to do it :
About the list of symbols shared by Barb, where can I find it inside Frame Maker ? Is it possible to select directly the symbol by clicking on this list ?

I do not know which utility Barb is using. You could use the Windows character map and copy the character from there and paste it into your FrameMaker document.
