I am working with older documents that have invalid elements. I was hoping there might be a way to change them in bulk rather than manually editing each element. I have a conversion table of the invalid elements and their current elements for a translation but no real way to push these updates through the full doc.
I know there is the scripting function in FrameMaker but since I've never coded in Java I'd be starting from scratch and would need help with that if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I would highly recommend FrameSLT from West Street Consulting. It is my favorite structured FrameMaker plugin because it allows you to do tasks like you describe. If you decide to use it, post exactly what you want to do in your documents and I will walk you through it with FrameSLT.

Is there a way I can manually code that myself? Submitting a procurement request like that in my company will take quite a while.

For $100 USD??? You've probably cost the company that much already just asking about how to do it!

It will work 30 days for free. That's probably plenty of time to get done what you need.

And when I said I would walk you through it, there will be no charge for my help.

Thanks Rick! That's really great. I like that you mention cleanup after running conversion tables, because that's a major way I have used the plugin myself. Really, the plugin was inspired by my daily usage of FM and the desire to have more control over the structured content. Adobe has provided probably the finest structured authoring interface that exists, but almost no tools to leverage the markup once you have it.

Thanks Russ. Your XPath primer is what got me started with XPath, and that led to XSLT and some profitable programming work inside and outside of FrameMaker. Getting to work with FrameSLT is just plain fun!
