HTML5 Output for Unstructured Document

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

I have unstructured documents that we publish in PDF format. I would like to start outputting to HTML5. When I use the default HTML5 Settings File, for the most part, the document looks okay (Stock Settings.png). There are some odd spacing or text alignments, but I figured this would be updated in Style Mappings. I know some of my alignment issues are coming from the Paragraph Designer, so I might have to think about updating our style guide. Maybe my problems are tied to this.

When I try to alter the settings, things go way out of alignment (Altered Settings.png). I've tried using guidance from the Discussion Board, FM manual, and I've been looking over some videos, typically short and small amounts of information. I still can't get the document to display decently. Are there any in-depth videos or webinars on HTML5 publishing?

I am using the latest version of FrameMaker: 17.0.5

What are you altering that would produce such a jumble of images? You DO have those images inside an anchored frame, right?

The images are in an anchored frame. I am trying to edit certain layouts in the CSS Rule Definition.

Here is what the document looks like online. We publish this and provide it with the equipment. The PDF is placed online for user access: https://www.captiveaire.com/manuals/fire-systems/core-oim.pdf

So what are you trying to change in the css? (and personally, I would be editing the css outside of FM - so much simpler)

I am just trying to make the manual look nice in HTML5 format. I've edited CSS for webpages and I can edit outside of FM if that's what it will take.

I just assumed the FM Style Mapping was the way to go for simple changes. Issues I run into are small, and when I update some items, it blows the pages up. The image I've attached is using the default .sts file.

1: The graphic needs to reside in an anchored frame which has a left alignment. Check the anchored frame settings and you will find an option for aligning to left.

2:The numbering sequence may likely be made with both a character tag and a paragraph tag. You need to go into the style mapping in the HTML5 settings and locate the paragraph and character styles in question. In each style you will find an option for editing the styles HTML appearance.

3: It is the same issue with the tables. You will need to locate the tables paragraph style in the HTML5 editor and change it there:

I've been editing those types of items and the manual gets worse sometimes. I will try to edit items one by one, and hopefully stop destroying the layout.

Thanks for the info.

The process is a bit slow, but it is mostly a matter of keeping settings consequent and emulating the printed versions design.

This is the HTML5 version of the sample from my latest template and it is entirely made using the editor in FM's Publish panel.

A shortcut might be to use one of the FrameMaker templates I sell on my humble shop here:

https://framemaker.dk/en/shop

Most of the newer ones come with predefined settings for both pdf and html5 publishing, like this one:
