Images in the FM document

New Here ,
Oct 28, 2021 Oct 28, 2021

I am a relatively new user of FrameMaker. I am working on updating some contents and images on FM document that was created previously. This is a 600 page document with lots of images. The images were linked to a folder, to which I do not have access to. So, I when I open the document, I get a "Missing File " window stating that the image files are missing. Is there an easy way to import all the images into the document without using the links?

Thanks in advance!

Create a single folder in your project directory and place your graphics there.

Once you update a single file to that location, FrameMaker should find the remainder of the images in that location.

IIRC, there are other "default search" locations, but I find the single directory option works well.

Do you need the images for the work you are doing? If not, choose Ignore All Missing Files. Otherwise, you need access to the images folder and you need to relink to the folder.

As frameexpert points out, the Missing File dialog has options for:
Missing File
:radio_button: Update Document To Use New Path
:white_circle: Skip This File
:white_circle: Ignore All Missing Files

But your remark "Is there an easy way to import all the images into the document without using the links" suggest that you do have access to the images, just not via the originally-authored filepath. If you elect the Update option, the images will become visible, but the document paths will be revised, and will then throw the same error when re-opened back at the original directory.

Another hack that I've used for this situation is to create a symlink (shortcut) directory (or directories) in my view of the file system that have the same names and relative locations as the image source directories. This will only work if the filepaths in the document are all relative. Any that are absolute (contain drive letters or similar top-level network host syntax) won't work.
