Index shortcut key?

Using Frame 8. Alt-S-M opens the index marker window, but after adding text, I have to click New or Edit. Does anyone know of a keyboard shortcut?

After you edit the index entry, <TAB> takes you to the New/Edit button. <br />Then press the space bar or <Enter> key.<br /><br />If you want to close the Marker window, either press <ESC> when your <br />cursor is in the window or type <ESC>Cm when the insertion point is in a <br />document. Note that is three separate keys, pressed in sequence, not all <br />at the same time. The <ESC> key, an uppercase "C" and a lowercase "m".<br /><br />Ian

On the "resources" page at http://www.microtype.com there are great keyboard and shortcut quick-reference guides.

Also:

My all-time favourite for finding out about "hidden" FrameMaker shortcuts is Leximation's free List Shortcuts plug-in:

Cheers & enjoy,

Thank you - neither of these provided the shortcut I was hoping for, but it's nice to know they exist.

I just came across this list; have no idea how accurate it is:

Hi, Mary,
Just to confirm that I, too, am extremely irritated at the lack of this specific keyboard shortcut.

Have you checked out any of the add-on utilities that work with markers? there are several listed on the Leximation tool search, at
http://www.leximation.com

I've been checking out some third-party macro key utilities, but haven't yet found one that will close that *&**% little dialog box ....

I don't understand the problem. I work with index markers all the time, <br />and never touch the mouse. It's all done with the keyboard.<br /><br />I position the insertion point where I want the marker, then press <br /><ESC>sm to open the marker window. This is a platform-independent <br />shortcut, three separate key strokes. The Windows ALT+s, m works, too.<br /><br />Then I type the marker text.<br /><br />Then I press the <TAB> key.<br /><br />Then I press the space bar. This inserts the marker and brings focus <br />back to the document window. The marker window stays open, which is <br />usually OK.<br /><br />If I need to close the marker window I either press <ESC>Cm (again, <br />three separate key strokes) or I press <ESC> when focus is in the marker <br />window.<br /><br />If this doesn't do it, can you tell me what you are trying to do? I <br />might not understand the problem.<br /><br />Ian
