Indexing

I've been creating a composite index from 4 volumes. It's 40 pages long. Recently

started using FM9. Suddenly the entries are not always in alphbetical order. Why is FM doing this and is there a fix?

Help!

Which point version of FM9 are you using? The current version (9.0.3) is listed as FM 9.0p250 in the Help > About.

Can you give us some examples of what is out of order, e.g. symbols, numerics, plain alphabetic entries... ?

I am using the current version as you listed. The entire index is out of order. I'll attach my file. I've never had this happen before.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Nancy,

The attachment didn't show. Unfortunately, the Forum software doesn't recognize a number of file extensions. Either zip the FM file or rename it to add a ".txt" extension so it looks something like "filename.fm.txt" to fool the software into uploading it.

I've renamed it so I know what it is. LOL. Hopefully we can trick it! And just in case, I've also inserted the beginning of my indext below. As you can see, it's beginning with "Leakage" instead of what should be the "A"s. And you can see that the alphabetizing is not in order in the subheads either.

Leakage, ducts; S18.2

Leakage function, relationship, F16.14

Leak detection of refrigerants, F29.8

Legionella pneumophila, A48.6, F10.6

Arnis:

I opened a new template for my index and regenerated the index using that template. So far so good. But I have not idea how my file became corrupted. Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.

Creating a new template has seemed to resolve the problem. Doesn't answer the question of what happened to corrupt the file but at least I have a solution.

Nancy,

did you check the index sort order on the Reference page of the corrupt file? Is it sorted as it should be?

Bernd:

No, I haven't done that yet. Thanks for the suggestion.
