I am attempting to install FrameMaker 2020 on Windows 11, in a Mac Parallels 18 Pro vm environment. I get an error 501 - unable to install due to unavailable resource, with no reference to an unavailable resource. What can I do?

I have attached a screenshot of the error message.

Be sure to see this thread:
Any success running TCS/FrameMaker on M1 Mac?
but it's not likely to be encouraging.

You didn't mention the platform, but if it's iARM (M1, M2), that adds yet another layer to what is already an impressive hierarchy of emulations.

Thanks Bob,

The platform is a new MacBook Pro Max (2021), so it is indeed an M1 processor. So I cannot install FrameMaker, much less run it, with this setup.

When I found a post that said that FrameMaker was now compatible with Windows 11, I had new hope, but no way of knowing the consequences of Parallels emualtion and the M1.

I have Windows 10 running with Parallels on an Intel-CPU MacBook Pro (circa 2013). FrameMaker runs on that configuration, so I have something to work with.

Hi Dave,
in case you haven't yet solved your problem: I read of a similar case installing FrameMaker 2020 on Windows 11, tough with another error code and on an Intel Mac.
However, the solution was – as astonishing as it sounds – to replace the set-up.exe file with the one belonging to Frame 2019. Maybe you could give it a try.
Good luck!

Hi Marinocm,

Thanks for your suggestion. It is the most encouraging approach I have heard about in a while. Unfortunately, I don't know how to obtain a setup.exe for FrameMaker 2019. Can you help me there as well?

Hi,

you can download the trial version here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/framemaker-downloads.html

and then use just the file 'Set_up.exe' with your Frame 2020 installation files – it could work... again good luck!

Hi Marinocm,

I downloaded both install packages - for 2019 and 2020. I copied the Setup.exe from the 2019 files and pasted it into the unzipped install package for the 2020 app version. When I double-clicked the Setup file, I got a message: "The installation cannot continue as the installer file may be damaged. Download the installer filer again."

Perhaps I am having all this trouble because I am working with an ARM processor in a new MacBook Pro Max. There may be just too much different, with a different processor, Parallels, and Windows 11.

Thanks for your help. If you find a way to do this, I would appreciate a follow-up message.

FYI I checked with Adobe about this and was told that there is supposed to be a FrameMaker on ARM beta sometime in February 2024. Fingers crossed.
