When initially opening framemaker 8 after fresh install, i get the following error message :

Internal Error: 8004, 6343116, 8483344, 0 , Detected a serious problem and needs to shut down. Then the program just closes.

Anyone have any ideas? Enclosed is the log if that helps

Version p266 is the very first released version, so once you have the crash fixed you should definitely install the next updates as listed on the Adobe downloads page (or from FM's Help menu) -- each one must be installed individually, in sequence, as they are not "roll-up" updates.

As far as your printer, I don't know what a "disc publisher" printer is, but that's undoubtedly the problem, as it doesn't sound like it meets FM's requirements.  You need to have a "traditional" printer such as an HP

Please post the exact version of FM, the "pxxx" numbers, that you're using.

What printer is set as the system default?

What O/S and service pack level?

Unfortunately we can't analyze with the log files, only the Adobe engineers can understand them.

It is running on Windows XP sp2 , and is version p266 . The default printer is a disc publisher pro.

As far as your printer, I don't know what a "disc publisher" printer is, but that's undoubtedly the problem, as it doesn't sound like it meets FM's requirements.  You need to have a "traditional" printer such as an HP OfficeJet or whatever, or else if you have Adobe Acrobat installed and therefore you might have a printer called "Adobe PDF" or "Acrobat PDF".

Make one of these printers  your system default first, before you try to open FM.

Please let us know if  that resolves your problem --

Also, if this resolves your problem, you may want to check out a free utility called SetPrint that automatically changes the default printer when you open FM, without changing the default at the system level.

SetPrint is here: http://www.sundorne.com

Hi ya,

it seems as if I have nearly the same problem.

My FrameMaker shut down several times and it seems as if there are the same internal errors.

Internal Error: 8004, 6343116, 8483344, 0
FrameMaker 8.0.0 for Intel
Build: 8.0p266
Window System: MSWindows
Operating System: Windows NT 5.1 (major.minor.build: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2)
Generated on: Donnerstag, 12. November 2009 15:48:08
To file: c:\programme\adobe\framemaker8\FrameLog_09.11.12_15.48.08.txt

I think it has nothing to do with printers or so...

it shut down sometimes while saving or inserting links...

this time was while I wanted to save the file.

do you have an idea how to fix the problem?

cause its a bit annoying to loose the last changes from hours because you are not able to save, for example... and there is no backup data cause of the crash.

thank you very much.

Blackplushy, welcome to the forum.

It looks like you're not using the latest patch to FM (you have p266), so I would strongly suggest that you update first.

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows

You mention not having backup data after the crash; have you used FM's preference to "Automatic Save" every "x" minutes, which would at least limit the amount of information that is lost. Also, if you're not in the habit of doing so, using the keyboard sequence "ctl + s" (hold control, press s) frequently is a very, very good habit to have.
