Hi All,

I have a inherited a User Mauual. I have a Book and all the Chapters,  1 through 10.

When I update a book, I am getting hundreds of Unresloved Cross-references.

As I said before, all the Chapters are their in the same folder.

Now I have to go to Cross-References dialog box (shwon below) and re assign all references again by:

  • selecting Document (Chapter)
  • selecting Source Type (paragraph)
  • selecting Marker Types (section, or figure, or table, whatever)
  • and finally selecting the Cross-reference Marker

I am not sure at what point these cross-references links got broken.

Can anyone expalin that, please?

Appreciate any response. Thank you.

Did the relative path between the files get moved at some point? That can throw off xrefs.

Hello Jeff,

Appreciate your response.

As I have said, I have inherited this project so I do not really know.

So is there any solution for that or user (in this case I) would have to re-configure each and every link?

Considering my Manual has about 100-200 links.

Wondering how often people come across problem like this?

As you know, if multiple image is missing in a document, you only have to point to the folder once and then other images will automatically default to the folder you selected. Do they have similar features for this Un-resolved Cross-references?

Thanks.

I don't think so - it would be cool if it did fix multiple broken xrefs (if they were to the same spot).😁

You might try saving one as a MIF file & have a look at it to see what path it thinks the xref is supposed to be looking for - that might give you a clue if was moved around.
