User Variables in Figure/Table autonumbering ?

New Here ,
Aug 20, 2008 Aug 20, 2008
Hello everyone

I haven't been using FrameMaker 8 very long so please be gentle with me !

Is it possible to include User Variables in the Autonumber Format of a style ?

I would like to include a section title in the autonumbering format of the Figure/Table styles I have created.

Many thanks in advance

Sean

Hello everyone

Doesn't anyone have anything to say about this, even if itis don't be so stupid, of course you can't use user created variables in autonumbering.

Actually, what I'm trying to do is create autonumbering that corresponds to the section, e.g. Figure 1a in section 1, Figure 1b in section 1, Figure 1.1a in section 1.1, Figure 1.1.1a in section 1.1.1, etc. etc. etc.

Can anyone help ?

Sean:

There's no mechanism for putting FrameMaker variables into the autonumbering text entry area.

You can, on the other hand, combine numbering such that it includes multiple counters. In the online help, look for "Using multiple counters in an autonumber format"...

And the autonumbering text entry area can contain text, such as the word "Figure", et al...

Cheers & hope this helps,
Riley
