Using FM 7.1, when I try to replace an image with another image using File>Import>File, I get an error message, "cannon specify a dpi setting for the selected graphic." I get the message when selecting File>Import>File before I ever get to the file choosing dialog. Any idea where this is coming from and how to correct it?
Thanks.

First off, what specific version of 7.1 are you using, as shown in Help > About, the "pxxx" numbers. What platform?
Second question, what are the steps you use to remove the original image? Is the image in an anchored frame, in a table cell, on a master page?
Does creating a new anchored frame and putting an image in it work ok?

Version 7.1 p114, Windows XP Pro.
I did not remove the original image. I intended to replace it, as I had done in previous instances to other images. The image is in an anchored frame.
I am able to create a new anchored frame, and insert an image into it.
Incidently, the error message appears immediately upon selecting the second File in File>Import>File.

Is the replacement file the same format as the one you're replacing? It sounds like FM's complaining that a vector graphic is trying to replace a raster and it doesn't know how to scale it.

The file was a WMF, (Windows Meta File), which I assume is a tif. The error message appeared after I selected the graphic I wanted to replace, and selected File>Import>File. The error message popped up as I clicked the last File, before any dialog boxes appeared at all. I finally just deleted the image that was there, and imported another image. I don't know why I got the error message, but I'm through screwin' with it.
Thanks for your help.

A WMF is not a TIFF. It's a format that can contain both vector and raster info, but most likely is vector only in your case.
That's the reason FM was complaining. You were trying to replace a raster image with a vector one and FM didn't know how to apply the stored sizing (pixel dimensions) and resoluiotn (dpi) to the vector info of the WMF. When changing formats, you need to delete the old file first (inside the anchored frame) and import the replacement graphic as a new file.
