I have inherited a book that had 6 chapters and I've added a 7th chapter at the front. I've gone into the Numbering Properties set up and set it so that the first chapter says "Chapter #1" and the rest say "Continue numbering from Previous File in Book." However, when I ask it to update the numbering, I still get the first two labeled as Module 1 and then it continues with Module 3 labeled as 2, Module 4 as 3, etc.
Any suggestions as what else might be playing a role in this?
Thank you!

Be sure you are setting up the numbering in the book file, NOT each document file in the book. That is, in the book file, right-click the file you want to be number 1 and select Numbering; set this to start at 1. Right-click each subsequent file...IN THE BOOK FILE...and select Numbering; set these to continue from previous. Then update the book. That should do it.
What you specify as numbering by right-clicking the file names in the book file OVERRIDES anything set up in the document files themselves.

Moxamoll,
In addition to Van’s suggestions please remember you can select multiple files in the book and set their numbering or pagination settings at once.

Hi Van,
Is that what you are referring to as the "Book File"?
This is where I've entered the Numbering options by right-clicking. The first Module is set to Chapter 1 and the rest are set to continue from previous.
As you can see, I've right-clicked on what should be Module 2, set it to continue from previous, but it doesn't work. Once I ask it to update numbering, it's still 1, 1, 2, 3, etc.
So if I should be accessing this from somewhere else, can you please describe it better for me? Thanks!

Yes, that is the book file and you are correctly setting the numbering from the book file. So, let's consider a few things...
First, the obvious. Did you update the book with Numbering checked? I think you state that you did, but just want to make sure.
Second, you INHERITED the project from someone else. The person who created the project may have used an older version of Frame....or cheated.
Look in the autonumbering format properties of the paragraph format assigned to the chapter title. Does it contain the building block <$chapnum>? If not, change it. In the old days, users had to use a compound set of numbering that managed both chapter numbering, section numbering, subsection number, etc. In later versions, it is easier to do. When you specify the numbering in the book file, you are telling Frame how to deal with the <$chapnum> building block. If the autonumbering format does not contain it, what you do in the book file has not effect.
If THAT does not solve the problem, look more closely into the actual paragraph that displays the chapter number in each chapter file. Maybe the previous writer has entered the chapter number manually. If so, then you will have to create an autonumbering format in the appropriate paragraph style, one that uses <$chapnum>.
If you are still having problems, let me know.

I ended up by going in and removing all formatting for chapnum and then putting them in properly. It looks like they'd partially set it up and then somehow edited it manually. I'm not really sure what they exactly they did, but clearing out everything and re-entering it myself seems to have fixed the problem. At least it's working now!
(And I'm glad they aren't here any more!)
Thanks for the pointers.
