Why is my copy faking(?) balance columns here?

The text frame doesn't have "balance columns" turned on. Selecting the text including the text on the previous page and selecting "Place the current paragraph at its default location" doesn't help, nor does selecting or deselecting "Keep with" options in paragraph designer. This happens in other documents, too. how can I get the copy to just continue in the first column? Thanks.

I'm betting that the feature is enabled, but that you checked the Object Properties of the frame, and not the Format > Page Layout > Column Layout option.

Oddly, the Object Properties for the individual frame doesn't show the setting enabled via the Column Layout option. (at least, that's how it works in my install of Fm 16.0.4)

Here's a short video from my Authoring Unstructured Content in FrameMaker  course to show you how it works.
