Univers 47 fonts display in FM, but don't PDF correctly.

Running FrameMaker 9 with embedded PDF on Windows XP 2002, SP2. Fonts will print okay to system printers, but are changed to Times New Roman when I PDF. Does anyone know why or how to fix this? Is it something I need to do in FM or ? I tried adding them to the embedded list when doing the Save to PDF, but they don't seem to hold. The Univers 55 fonts do fine. Any thoughts? Thanks,

Dawn

Dawn, are the Univers 47 fonts in the PDF that you've embedded? if so, it could be that there is a different version of the font in the PDF as compared to what you have on your system, and the PDF-embedded one has a "not embeddable" setting on it.

Do you have the location for the Univers 47 font listed in the Fonts directories for your Distiller setup?   Distiller > Settings > Font Locations.

Does the embedded PDF print correctly when you print directly from it to the printer? Was the embedded PDF created on your system or somewhere else?  There is a preflight check in Acrobat that lists all the fonts in the document, have you looked at the embedded PDF to see if it says anything about the fonts -- Advanced > Print Production > Preflight.

Dawn,

is the Universe font you're using an OpenType font? I've run extensive font tests with FM9, and get similar results with e.g. the HelveticaNeue W1G. While the Condensed/Condensed bold fonts make their way into the PDF, the Condensed Medium font doesn't. This is obviously a bug with the "Save as PDF…" function, in combination with the CMYK engine, and can only be solved by ENabling "Convert CMYK colors to RGB".  With this option enabled, all fonts should be included in your PDF.
