Hi everyone,

Sorry about the trouble this issue has caused. During our investigation, we found that background save process was getting conflicted with some Plugins.

Could you please confirm if you are using any third-party plugins like ESKO? If yes, please try removing that (for testing purpose only) and let us know if this helps resolving the issue.

Also, I would request that if you could upvote this issue and share this information here (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/39029392-background-save-works-but-it-thinks-it-s-not-worki

Hi John,

We're sorry to hear about this. I have already forwarded this to our Product team and they are looking into it. We tried but were unable to replicate this issue at our end. Could you please confirm where the files are being saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System /External HDD)? Is there any sync service which is turned on?

Regards,

Srishti

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

The files are on a server with big HD and I'm just connected to it (by wire). A backup is running every nights on that server. Files are not move locally to work on it. The server and my computer are all mac systems. I'm working with the last version (updated) of Illustrator. It's not a big problem but it's a bit annoying...

Kind Regards

John

Thanks for sharing the details, John. Could you please confirm if the same thing happens if the files are saved on Desktop (System HDD)?

Current Version - Mac - File Saving - despite saving a file, it doesn't have 'save' greyed out after it actually saves, then when I close the document, it asks if I want to save (!).

This is a bad glitch - I have to look on my server to see if, in fact, the file has saved - ADOBE - PLEASE FIX!!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with Illustrator. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  1. The exact version of Illustrator and macOS.
  2. Are you able to save the file locally?
  3. Since you are saving the files on a server, could you please check if this is happening with only your user account or with others as well?

Mac OS High Sierra Version 10.13.6

Ai 24.0.1

I can save locally (to desktop) as well as to the server - however I encounter the same issue about 'save' not greying out and asking to save despite the fact that it did, indeed save.

Appears to be only on my account (not the 2 other individuals I asked)... weird

Thanks for sharing the details, could you please try turning off the Background save option in preferences and see if that makes the difference. For that, please navigate to Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard > Uncheck Save in Background. For more information you can refer to the screenshot below:

Unchecking the "Save in Background" button did not work for me. I'm running OS 10.15.2 and Illustrtor 2020. My issue is, I save quite often without any error messages. When I close the file that I have been working on via the network (Drop Box), NONE of the saves are in place and the "Modified Date" doesn't change to the current date and all changes are LOST. This is a NEW occurence. It only happens with Illustrator. And their tech support is NO HELP. Telling me the app is running correctly. IT'S NOT!

Hi there,

Could you please confirm if it is happening when you are trying to overwrite a PDF file? If yes, please update Illustrator to 24.0.3 and check again if you are still facing the issue.

Rishabh: No. It only happens when I change an existing file and "save" on our network (Drop Box). This ONLY happens with Illustrator 2020.

Thanks for confirming. In which format you are trying to save the file on Dropbox? Have you tried saving the file locally? Have you tried saving the file to a different location on Dropbox?

I'm just saving .ai files. Saving locally works, but is very inconvenient and somewhat archaic in my opinion. Saving to a different location also works, but again, is very inconvenient and increases the possibility of error since we have multiple people who have access to our network files.Again, this ONLY happens with Illustrator.

Any one have this problem?

New 2020 version. After saving a file and want to close, Illustrator asks to save the file again.

The little asterek is still visable after saving and the "save" window is not greyed out?

Thoughts?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  1. The exact version of Illustrator and the Operating System.
  2. Is this happening with a specific document or with all the documents?
  3. Where are you saving the file, locally or on any network or shared drive? If on any network or shared drive, please try saving a file locally and see if that's working as expected.

We're here to help just need more information.

Running 24.0.1  and 10.13.6 OS

Happening with all documents. Tried saving both locally and network folders to see if I get the same message.

Happens for both.

Also tested using the Older 2019 version, saves fine.

Exactly where are you trying to save the file?

If on a network please try the internal harddisk.

Can you try if it gets better when you turn off the "Save in background" in the preferences.

this happens in the 2020 version, but after the 24.0.1 update this must be fixed,

I would suggest:

1- Reset illustrator preferences settings , restart your mac and try again

2- uninstall/reinstall illustraor .

I would like to know if resetting preferences helped resolving the issue? If not, please try turning of Background Save from Illustrator preferences and let us know if this helps.
