As of yesterday, when I open Illustrator and click on "Create New", it does nothing.  Both of the "Create New" buttons below in the image.  Literally nothing.  I tried then clicking on "File, New" and nothing happens there as well.  I am aware of the "use legacy "file new" interface" setting in the preferences-- which does work.  I have also deleted and reinstalled illustrator multiple times-- with no effect.  It was literally working fine until yesterday.

Running Windows 10, and most up-to-date version of Illustrator downloaded through CC app.

You could try and delete the OOBE folder and see if that helps.

Did Windows do some updates in the meantime (that might have caused something completely different ... which nobody knows yet)

OOBE described in here:

I was unable to locate the file using the instructions provided in the link.  I also did a search of my whole computer and it did not locate it.  The app is functioning just fine and is not crashing though.  It's just that one aspect that suddenly stopped working.  I can't remember a Windows update, but it certainly is possible.

In that case just go with the legacy dialog box.

And let's hope it gets solved.

Did you try resetting the default preferences when restarting Illustrator?

Hold down CTRL + ALT + SHIFT when you open Illustrator.
