Can you prevent linking when dragging/dropping an image?

As in dropping an image into AI and instead of linking the image becomes a part of the AI file?  Id like to be able to remove this linking process all together when I drag-n-drop images to AI since I sometimes edit my AI files on different computers.

Or is the only way to not have to worry about linking is if I save my AI file as a PDF and edit the PDF in AI on another computer?
